US Hawaii: Lesbian pair held after kissing win damages

Why would you ask if the guy is up for promotion, if you already knew he was already retired?

Why not?
It was not in the original article- I found out later.

You are aware links update- including changing the headline to another- reason they do that is to generate more traffic.
Now what is your problem?

You can't get physical with a cop. That's a crime.

Yes, because we've all stepped through the looking glass into a police state where the forces are militarized, can brutalize citizens without repercussions, and you have people who not only think they can violate your civil rights at will but you also cannot defend yourself from assault and attempted kidnapping if the perp has a badge. Oh, and apparently civil rights are going for 80 grand a pop now. Welcome to America.

No, that little tidbit was part of the original story.

My point, is that you posted another, "I hate da fuzz", thread, relished in the belief that his career is ruined and you weren't even aware that he is retired.

Did he retire or was he retired?

I read that he had retired on post 32. So what is your problem????
No I do not hate Police - I do think that some abuse their authority up to and including getting away with murder.

We live in a civilized society--for now--where law and order are respected. You can't get in a fight with a cop for the same reason you can't revolt against the government.

If you laid hands on someone you don't know and tried to forcibly take them somewhere you would be charged and likely convicted of assault and attempted kidnapping and anyone who tried to stop you would not be charged and would be within their rights to defend themselves to whatever extent is necessary. In a civilized society, the outcome would be the same whether you are a cop without legal cause or an ordinary citizen. You don't think people have a right to defend their liberties?

No, pretty much any scenario that involves assaulting a cop is a losing proposition for the person doing the assaulting. I say, "pretty much", because nothing is 100%, obviously.

The best policy, is when you're interacting with the cops, don't get into a fight with them.

These chicks didnt, "win", anything. They were bought off, because the city council believes that 80 grand is pocket change compared to what a court battle will cost, plus the PR.

Right... and you also think that people who give oral sex should be given the death penalty so that about sums up how much I care about your opinion.

Ad hominem.

I am and yes there are... they get asked a lot.

Okay.....but I wasn't talking to you.

And there are no dumb questions as questions are not people and thus cannot be either dumb or smart...they have no intelligence.

Good day.

In regards to what is or is not a dumb question and the internet police...

Public displays or affection are acceptable. There is a line by our current laws. It is the same for straights and gays.

Law and order are respected? Really!?

It seems to me there are many fairly recent events in contemporary history that contradict that rosy assessment. For example, Hillary is not being indicted for her crimes, and neither was George Bush. Some muslim kid just did 14 years in Gitmo for having done nothing.

A very rosy assessment, not comporting well with reality. These ladies were arrested and harassed for nothing at all.

Usage Discussion of dumb

There is evidence that, when applied to persons who cannot speak, dumb has come to be considered offensive.

Examples of dumb in a sentence

I'm not dumb enough to believe that.

It was a dumb idea in the first place.

He just stood there with a dumb grin on his face.

This is one of the dumbest TV shows I've ever seen.

It was dumb luck that we found this place at all.

His success is just a matter of dumb luck.

He was born deaf and dumb.

Dumb | Definition of Dumb by Merriam-Webster

He sat there after asking a dumb question.

A grin can't be dumb either, according to you. According the Merriam Webster though, it can.

Maybe I should have added, "for the most part"?

Ah yes, in the Land Of The Free & Home of The Brave, a public display of affection is now grounds for going to jail. Who 'dat say we ain't got no police state?

Here's the deal. If the law for lewd conduct is enforced the same for gays and for straights, then I see no problem with an arrest. The big question is this: Were straights previously engaging in the same type of conduct and given a pass?

My answer to this question is I don't know. Therefore, I don't know if the cops in question acted appropriately or not. There is a lot to this story that is not really in the story. Was the couple targeted because they were gay? I just don't have enough information to be able to answer that.

Or they can just shield their eyes. Or just look away and ignore it.

It's what I do all the time.

Or people could do that **** in their home or in a hotel or something. You know, like a decent human being. I would like to think that humans have evolved beyond animals ****ing in the open.

That's reasonable. Do you really think that if a cop saw a man and woman making out, with the man going under and lifting the girls shirt up in a public place, that the cop wouldn't tell them to take it somewhere else - just like in this case?

You didn't post my entire quote, so let me add to what you posted. As it stands, I do not have enough information to make that kind of a determination. The media left out what I needed to know to make any kind of a decision on. So maybe there were grounds for a lawsuit, and maybe there weren't. Again, I just don't know. But I consider the lifting of the skirt as lewd behavior, and if the same standard applies to straights, then the arrest was a good one.

However, had this happened at a Wal-Mart, then I don't see how any arrest could have been made. After all, it happened at a zoo, and animals don't know any better.

True. In order to make an accurate assessment, one must know all the circumstances.

An arrogant and zealous homophobic cop, or a really silly damn law? We have plenty of both in this country.

Not to mention the easiest thing in the world to manufacture is "resisting arrest." Just knock people around a little and they'll reflexively struggle (BECAUSE ALL HUMANS RESPOND THAT WAY TO PHYSICAL ASSAULT) and bam, resisting arrest.
Sad, but true.
