Of the trifecta of calamities plaguing Alabama’s branches of government, it is Mr. Hubbard’s felony corruption trial starting this week that may rattle the state the most. The potential witness list, reflecting Mr. Hubbard’s business-friendly approach to politics, is a lineup of the state’s power elite, including bank executives, construction magnates, legislators, lobbyists, former Gov. Bob Riley and, promising a must-watch day of testimony, the current governor, Robert Bentley.

Mr. Hubbard and Mr. Bentley have vigorously denied wrongdoing, and Chief Justice Roy S. Moore, who was removed from the same position in 2003 for refusing to move a two-ton monument of the Ten Commandments from the state judicial building, insists that the ethics charges he is facing are without merit.
Side note- Democrats should not think this is just a Republican Party problem. look at New York.
But from up north here, corruption cases seems to be more common lately?
Is that your impression or not?
Thoughts are?

On a related note of government corruption, oral arguments were very recently held in the Governor McDonald case. If you don't recall, this was the case where Governor McDonald was prosecuted for accepting direct bribes from a friend's company (including plane flights, jewelry, shopping trips for family members, etc.) in exchange for providing and promoting that company's access to government officials. Well, Mr. McDonald appealed (obviously) and during the Supreme Court arguments, it appears as though the judges - with the exception of Kagan and Sotomayor - are actually leaning in favor of overturning the prosecution.

It appears as though the Judges are looking for a new bright line rule and to require that corruption only applies in a situation where the government official actually enacted a piece of legislation in exchange for the bribes. Needless to say, this would overturn more than a hundred years worth of precedent and make it much, much more difficult to prosecute someone for government corruption except the most obscenely idiotic of cases.

In regards to this particular situation, all I have to say is **** Roy Moore. That guy is a massive dick.
