South Carolina barber charged for pulling gun after telling customer ?I don?t cut black hair? | National Post

South Carolina barber charged for pulling gun after telling customer ‘I don’t cut black hair’

“I was shocked, I was shocked for my life, because I’m thinking that could’ve been me laying on the floor dead,” Hill, the would-be customer, told NBC affiliate WCNC. “He did not point it at me, but it was clear in sight like he meant business.”

The barber told a deputy that he wasn’t holding the gun and that they’re kept in a shed behind his barbershop, according to the sheriff’s report. But the handguns in the shed matched the description Hill provided investigators, the sheriff’s report reads.

Since his arrest and release, Thomas has told local media outlets he had the gun out because he “felt threatened.”

I think he is in doodoo.
Your thoughts are?

Yeah. He's in trouble. This doesn't seem like a fake report that I've heard about in the past.

Can't throw down on a customer. That's for sure.

If the customer had a gun, would they have bee justified in shooting the barber once the barber pulled the gun out?

The barber from the report was threatening to use his gun

Not a lot of info to go on so far - but from what we have... it sounds like he did something very stupid. I wonder why. It would be interested to hear the backstory to what seems like a rather extreme reaction to a request for a haircut.

First I can understand how the barber being autistic would not be comfortable breaking his routine. I can see how he could of felt threatened in the confrontation. That however does not justify or excuse him from brandishing a firearm.

Was this individual alone in the shop? With him previously pepper spraying a customer it seems he should have been supervised better.

Where I was raised here in agricultural Florida, such a scene might easily have happened. I can remember segregated public water fountains.

And the reality is that was not long ago.

Let me see here.
The barber told a deputy that he wasn’t holding the gun and that they’re kept in a shed behind his barbershop, according to the sheriff’s report.

“I always have a gun right here,” Thomas told WCNC, as he tapped his cabinet. “But I felt threatened because that man came walking back here to where I was, I felt threatened and I picked up the gun and I had it here by my side.”

I am not legal scholar but I believe that it lying to a law enforcement officer. No room for backpedaling now buddy.

Exercising his 2nd amendment rights and refusing to serve a customer? I thought the likes of Henrin, Thrilla et al would be jumping on here to defend him.
