Navy fires officer in charge of captured sailors

Educate me. Explain how a commander isn't responsible for the indoctrination of his troops. I can't wait. This is going to be good. Get after it...

How the hell can the President of the USA be responsible for 'troop indoctrination'? Actually, how can anyone be responsible for indoctrinating troops? Does that even happen?

Is the CIC responsible for the training and discipline of the men under his charge. He sets the time for the entire armed forces. Does he not?

Yes. He does not.

The cult of personality surrounding Obama is scary.

Very SCARY isn't it!

No it's not.
Damn. Is every event a crisis in your world?

When service members lives and the integrity of the armed forces are on the line, it's the invasion of Normandy, Gettysburg, The Bulge, The Cowpens, Verdun, The Yet Offensive, every time.

Yes, it happens. That's why there's an entire branch for that. In the Army it's known as, TRADOC, "training and doctrine command".

Don't be an ass. The President wasn't responsible for the actions and decisions of officers when those actions and decisions were important to a war effort and the officers were Colonels and Generals.
You're just poo-flinging. A word of advise- don't lick your fingers.

Are you really asking me that?

Not really. While he is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, operational command and control of the armed forces fall primarily to the Secretary of Defense, the Chairmen of the Joint Chief of Staff and other high level central commanding elements, with the President operates only largely as a broad overseer, with little influence in day to day operations beyond observation, with exceptions for humanitarian and natural disasters, which usually amount only to giving orders for mobilization and deployment, with nearly all of the actual planning and details falling to actual military commanders. Commander in Chief for the President is a position, not a rank. The President does not write doctrine, oversee training regimes, formluate strategy or develop and plan operations. He remains a civilian, not a member of the armed forces.

It's always the invasion of Normandy.
Was Franklin Roosevelt responsible for all the screw ups in the invasion of Normandy? There were more than a few, and many cost American/Allied lives.

If this isn't the dumbest conversation on DP you sure as **** can see it from here.

Not THIS President. Right? But, a Republican President? That would be a different story. Wouldn't it?

Which screwups? A lot of the screwups during Operation Overlord were Murphy's Law.

You people will say anything to cover for Obama. He's a living God to you.

A bunch Libbos are taking mulligans right about now.

Oh yea sure, just like GWB was responsible to manage the night-guard shift at Abu Ghraib prison. LOL

But...but...but...that's diiiiiiiiiiiiiifereeeeeeeeent!

Another waste of electrons. As has been pointed out - this sort of military error has happened throughout history. And the OP made no attempt to make any sort of linkage to the Commander of the Navy, or the Joint Chiefs... let along the C in C. Seems the comment about the OP having never served is apt. My eldest served in the Navy also. Before Obama was elected. Based in Japan. A relatively 'quiet' posting. And he can tell you stories that will curl your toes and make you wonder why we aren't all just a heap of glowing molten slag at the moment.

I guess some people will leap upon any hint of anything that besmirches one they don't approve of - factual or not. Rational or not. Fair or not.

we have been doing these operations in the Persian Gulf for a very long time, and never before had anything close to this level of breakdown. I expect that within 24 hours McCain will tell you the same thing I am telling you, that this is a top level command and control failure.

Are you kidding? You're getting your ass handed to you. Your arguments here are among the most disingenuous in the history of DP.

That miserable whiny narcissistic prick Obama has completed one of his main goals. Knock America down to being equal with the rest of the third world.

My recruiter is currently sitting in jail right now for having sex with minors. Who is held responsible, the recruiter, or the CIC?

I'm hardly getting my ass handed to me. I've been on these forums since EVERYTHING was Bush's fault...lol!

All of a sudden, since the Messiah got elected, NOTHING is his fault, EVER.

If that recruiter hosed down a dozen civilians in a combat zone would his chain of command be held responsible for his actions?
