The Navy SEAL killed in Iraq on Tuesday was identified as Charlie Keating IV, a former Phoenix high school star distance runner and the grandson of the late Arizona financier involved in the 1980s savings and loan scandal.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced Keating died in an Islamic State group attack near the city of Irbil.

This is big news in Ohio where the Keating family is based. The Keating family has served as a major patron of swimming and the St Xavier HS natatorium was funded by this family. That a Keating ended up in the SEALS is no surprise.

A friend of mine used to baby sit him, and my niece and nephew went to HS with him.

Charles Keating the developer/hotel owner was pure swine. This guy is the cousin of Olympic gold medalist swimmer Gary Hall Jr.

right you are-and I know that. you cannot live in Cincinnati and be a sports fan and not know about the keating family. The keating involved in the scandal was a great swimmer himself. The disgraced financier's brother was a well liked Congressman and the family founded one of the more prestigious Law Firms called Keating Muething and Klekamp. The school they support-St Xavier-is one of the premier jesuit prep schools in the USA and one of the perennial national swimming powers that has turned out several gold medalists in world and Olympic competition.

His grandfather scammed and got thrown in prison for his deeds. A complete grifter. The Halls all grew up in PHX. My friend would get flown out to the bahamas on Charles private jet (bought with bilked money) to babysit for vacations...

The Keating family had lots of wealth even if Charles didn't rip people off. As I recall he was a big anti porn guy who apparently had a collection of porn that even Larry Flynt was jealous of. that being said, the SEAL KIA was a hero and is more consistent with the public service MOST of the family is known for in Ohio. Bill Keating's grand sons are excellent athletes (mainly Golf, their father was a Division One Varsity tennis player) and my son used to play tennis with one of them.
