Move Over, Andrew Jackson. Harriet Tubman Is Coming to the $20 Bill.

They arent deleting Jackson from all the history books. They are just updating our modern currency with something that is extremely relevant to our culture.

I never implied they are deleting Jackson from the history books. I'm clearly stating that identity politics is harmful in nature and is simply a tool used to control people.

Even being extremely forgiving in this matter, this is about as helpful to anyone as changing their Facebook profile after some tragic event or some such nonsense. It makes people feel like they did something without really doing anything.

The pics on currency are not a "100% meritocracy" and never have been.

I always thought the pics were based upon contributions to the founding of our country in it's early years. I mean, based on that, Tubman barely rates as what she did really had no measurable effect. Yes, she did a lot and was amazing, but having any significant effect? No. I'd put MLK up as having a significantly higher effect in changing the dynamics of our country, if we want to look at someone who was non-white.

Fact is, due to the nature of our country's origin, the most impactful individuals were basically all rich white men.

What if a popular iconic person of our culture has 5 million friends on facebook BUT NOT A SINGLE black person. I guess you are kinda right because if someone had 5 million added friends and decides to add 1 single black person they maybe its fake? I dunno *scratches head*

I'd actually agree with MLK, but I have no issue with Tubman.

While yes, most of the significant individuals of great importance were white guys, I don't see the issue with acknowledging those who weren't.

If they added the person because they were black, yeah. If they added the person on the same criteria that everyone else was added and not because he was black, no.

I don't see an issue with acknowledging those who weren't, either. I see an issue with acknowledging them solely as a nod to their race because that's maintaining the status quo of race being a dividing issue.

If they put LL Cool J on the goddamn 20, I could see your "point," but what makes Harriet Tubman unworthy of recognition?

Very true.

Good reason not to be on Facebook.

Hey, he's got a great smile and if they put him on the bill...I'd be down wit dat bro....

For Second Amendment activists, Tubman may be good $20 choice

Tubman died in 1913. During her lifetime, she aided escaped slaves as a member of the Underground Railroad. There is some dispute about how many people she helped, but there appears to be no disagreement that while engaged in those activities, Tubman carried a small handgun for personal protection and was not afraid to brandish it.

I think President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho should be on the $3 quadrillion bill...

We're almost there...

Idiocracy = greatest documentary ever made!!!

Even if you don't think Tubman should have been the person placed on the twenty I'm not exactly persuaded by this argument that Jackson should be retained 'because he's been there for a long while and now its a tradition'. He wasn't that great of a President and he was an even worse individual, there have got to be legions of Americans better suited for the bill than him.

Who actually gives a **** about who is printed onto our currency.

It's not that I think she is particularly unworthy, just that there are others so much more worthy. What she did had no real dynamic effect on our country, as badass and honorable as it was. Like I said, MLK made bigger changes in our country's essence. LL Cool J has made no measurable change, either.

As I noted earlier, MLK will be on the $5 bill.
