"Edward Snowden doesn't seem happy that Hillary Clinton might escape the same felony charges for exposing classified information that prosecutors have sought against him."

"Espionage Act violations don't require intent to harm — exactly why the Obama's DOJ has gone after so many sources," the former NSA contractor and whistleblower said via a retweet on Twitter on Wednesday. The message included a link to a story quoting Obama's Sunday comment that Clinton "has not jeopardized America's national security," which many saw as a sign that Obama is looking for a reason not to prosecute Clinton.

It was his third message on the topic this week, apparently inspired by comments made by Obama.

"There's classified, and then there's classified," Obama said on Sunday. "There's stuff that is really top-secret top-secret, and there's stuff that is being presented to the president or the secretary of state that you might not want on the transom, or going out over the wire, but is basically stuff that you could get in open-source."

"If only I had known," Snowden said in an earlier Sunday tweet. "Anyone have the number for the Attorney General? Asking for a friend," he said in another message.

The same guy who was so committed to having an open society he ran away to Russia? Which is a bastion of.....oh.

He does have a point, though.

Yeah, I agree with him but probably not in the way he may want. I think they both belong behind bars.

True, but the chances of that are about as likely as you flying to the moon.

His options sucked. He would be in jail in America, or "free" in Russia. I would be brushing up on my Cyrillic Alphabet.

Edward Snowden has already been charged with crimes. Hillary Clinton has not.

What I think Edward Snowden deserves is a fair trial.

He should come back to the United States...and stand trial.

But "free" in Russia, especially as a defector, still isn't great. It's one thing if you visit as a tourist. You go there to live you won't have that many problems. But as somebody who leaked top secret documents?

The Russians are never going to trust him. Their not going to employ him as an analyst, and if he puts his foot wrong one too many times he's dead.

If he'd actually had the the courage of his convictions he would have stayed. But he wanted to be a hero and avoid any consuquences.

Courage in your opinion is being jailed when you can still fight from another position? Some people call that retreating.

And clearly he didn't avoid any consequences. He can never leave Russia, never see his family in the US because he told the American people their government was spying on them with the NSA.

Bed made.

Bread buttered.

Snowden is a Traitor and he intentionally leaked classified material and to our enemies no less, nothing he says now is of any merit a tree and a rope are all he deserves.

He ran away. He bailed. Push came to shove he decided, "You know, I'd really rather not have to go to jail for, you know, breaking the law" so he took off.

And he didn't just run away to any country---he ran away to Russia. Which has far less freedoms than America does. You pull **** like he did in Russia, you get to choose whether the FSB guy shoots you behind the left ear or the right one.

So yeah---he can never see his family again because not only did he break the law, he decided that rather than face the music he'd rather take off.

So yeah. All his own decisions.

Yesterday I was thinking that the top secret information was probably safer on Hillary's home server than on a government server where it could be hacked, or leaked by someone like Snowden.

Today, this pops up.

Snowden is a hero: he confirmed many government activities that still seem like fantastical conspiracy theories, that would have been laughed off and ridiculed prior to the revelations. The fact that he fled a hostile government puts him in the same position as other political refugees.

Yes, his decisions. Wouldn't you agree they came with consequences?

cpwill predicts that many former Snowden cheerleaders who are Clinton Fans (and most democrats after she wins) will suddenly become studiously uninterested in this topic....

Anyone who sees what Hillary Clinton did as the same as what Edward Snowden did...

...has jumped the Internet shark.

Okay...you folk are all worked up over the woman...she pushes your buttons. But don't be absurd about it.

I don't think anyone is saying that what Hillary and Snowden did are the same. However I will point out that the U.S. pressured it's allies to down foreign planes including that of the Bolivian president under the assumption that Snowden might be on board. The information revealed showed government dishonesty about the nature of internal surveillance.

Meanwhile Obama is poo-pooing Hillary's mishandling of classified information and is even trying to play down the controversey. Furthermore is glaringly obvious that Hillary will never face prosecution for what she did because of her political status. People have gone to jail for less than what she's done.

Are Hillary and Snowden the same: no. However Hillary is still being given a free pass that nobody else would be given.

well, if Snowden wanted equal treatment under the law, he should have married Bill Clinton and become a darling of hte Democratic party... barring that, he will be treated vastly different than Hillary... she's above the law.

Ummm...Ronald Reagan was given the same "free pass."

Fact is, I doubt seriously that anything Hillary Clinton did rises to the level of a sustainable charge.

Reagan was given a free pass? There were at least you had the Tower commission the Majority investigation, the Minority investigation and the Senate Intelligence investigation as well as independent ones
and none of them found that Reagan broke any laws. The reports are available on line at Brown University. Poindexter purposely never told Reagan what was going on to shield him from it. I always suspected VP Bush at the time knew ( since he was former CIA director ) but there wasnt ever really any focus on him.

Yeah, that's what I said. He was given a free pass also.

Right.

If Hillary Clinton were the president and the circumstances exactly the same...you guys would be calling for her execution for treason.

But we all have our biases...and that truly is the American way.

My point holds.
