Jimmy Buffett: Loyal fans more important than 'stupid law'

Im surprised people go to Jimmy Buffet concerts- he was a one hit wonder back in like the 70's and makes way more money on his restaurants.

I don't have any Jimmy Buffet on any playlist for the past couple of decades, but have been to a couple of shows and had a very good time. He's in my experience a good entertainer and the rabid fans make for an enthusiastic crowd that's easy to get caught up in, IME.

Jimmy Buffett? He's still around? Talk about a suck musician. I'm not even that big of a Springsteen fan but Springsteen is artistically relevant. A Jimmy Buffett concert is nothing but a pee break until he starts playing Margaritaville.

I suspect he sells out more shows than Brian Adams

agreed, I don't listen to his music-on my car's satellite radio button one is 23-The GD channel and the next is 25 (classic rock) so I skip JB. one of the ladies I worked with for 24 years was a Parrothead. I asked her how she listened to what I used to think was a no talent hack and she said the same thing-great concerts-good times -good enough answer for me

It's not a concert, it's a state of mind!

Think of it as a Dead concert - minus the acid - for the crowd that just missed the sixties, but partied through the seventies, and said 'no' to Disco in the eighties!

Put the parrotheads together and you get a pile of rocks.
A pile of rocks that would be cool, and mellow, and have great parties every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Different strokes. Boat music with an Island touch. Many of the songs hit home with some of us that grew up on the water, children of sailors, and would rather be on the water than on the land.

Very nicely put together sentence!

Well if you enjoyed yourself then thats great. :)

As for me, I never even heard of him until I was overseas despite growing up in So Cal in the Eighties, it seems his songs were never on the radio!

Hmm, that description fits the Eagles to a T!

He's crap also. But Buffets songs really sound as if they were written and performed while lying down and his musical prowess is put to shame by the average jingle from a mediocre carpet commercial.

I’m pretty sure the moment you start liking Jimmy Buffett is the moment you give up any hope of caring about your life. It’s also the moment you stop caring about things like chord changes or rhythm or sobriety.

I'm pretty sure your opinion as expressed here is formed on anything but Jimmy Buffets music...but if it IS actually based on Jimmy Buffets music, you have a lot bigger problems in your life than Jimmy Buffets music.

It punishes them for electing an apparently incompetent government who are willing to pass a stupid law and throw away jobs.

Who are they to enact punishment?

A man wants to put on a show, people want to see the show, a transaction of money for promised entertainment is made.

The punishment -- if any -- should be on the douche canceling the show to make a political spectacle of himself.

Jimmy, while I disagree with him on the subject, whole-heartedly keeps my support for going about this the right way.

You wanna cancel all future dates? Fine.

But you made a business transaction in which money was collected upfront for a promised performance, you don't perform? you're in breach...and for that, the hammer should fall...

I have been to 3 JB concerts. The man is a great entertainer, and the crowd is always festive and friendly.

Jimmy is a huge part of the coastal culture............. sail boaters, fishermen, sailors, beach lovers, travelers, island hoppers................. etc. etc.

I live that sort of lifestyle when I am not working, and Jimmy fits right in with the culture.

Different strokes. Boat music with an Island touch. Many of the songs hit home with some of us that grew up on the water, children of sailors, and would rather be on the water than on the land.

People just want to be entertained and have a little fun, and that is always found at a JB concert.

As for me, I never even heard of him until I was overseas despite growing up in So Cal in the Eighties, it seems his songs were never on the radio!

That wouldn't surprise me...Different culture entirely...

Funny thing, the honest to God truth of the matter was a 3 day Jimmy Buffet bender on XM which prompted my FL trip last month...

Sometimes I have a lapse in impulse control...

If you've ever been to a karaoke bar, you must have noticed that when his songs are performed by loaded participants, they are indistinguishable from the original recordings. All of Buffett’s songs sound vaguely like adult nursery rhymes. Replace the words “bottle” with “beer” and “cradle” with “beach,” and you’ve got an instant Buffett classic.

Well so far, Bruce Springfield and Bryan Adams have cancelled. And, truth is, I usually change the radio station when either of them come on anyways.

But, make NO mistake. I AM a Parrothead to the bone. And I agree with Jimmy. Most always do.

I love the Parrotheads. They are very philanthropic up here. Great people.

I would just like to point something out however.

If you're taking more time to criticize certain peoples reaction to the law, rather than the law itself... Then you may be part of the problem as much as they are.
This is intriguing, but I'm not sure I get your drift. Could you elaborate?

Hits aren't always where it's at. You could put the Grateful Dead in the same category. Not many "hits", but extremely loyal followings.

I would never go to an Eagles concert, and I've been to roughly 50-60 concerts in my life, going back to the 70s.

Why? They don't do anything. I don't expect theatrics, but I would like to see something less stiff than cardboard.

I once knew a guy who had previously worked at an arena as an usher. He got to see a lot of acts. The two most boring were The Eagles and Crosby, Stills & Nash. He said even Ameriva put on more of a show than The Eagles.

The Eagles are an example of where I can listen to a CD and get the same experience.

Seems only in America do you interpret government policy based on the reactions of entertainers, often entertainers well past their best before dates.

Waiting for Barbra Streisand to get out her walker and make an announcement and pretty soon Kim Kardashian will find a robe and trot Kanye out to parade Caitlyn Jenner into the ladies room at a Charlotte playoff game.

You wanna know what is irrelevant and that nobody cares about? Your thoughts on whether the artist in question is relevant and any cares about.
