Al Qaeda explosives experts transferred from Guantanamo Bay | Fox News

Two of Al Qaeda's former explosives experts were just transferred out of Guantanamo Bay and sent to Senegal, the Defense Department confirmed Monday, marking the latest detainees to be shipped out of the prison camp despite the risk they could return to the battlefield.

The two Libyan former detainees were separately listed as threats to U.S. interests in Department of Defense documents obtained by Wikileaks and The New York Times.

The news comes as senators prepare to introduce legislation to permanently block transfers of Guantanamo detainees to terror hot spots and state sponsors of terrorism including Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Iran and Sudan. Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., was expected to introduce a bill as early as Monday, Fox News has learned.

Why is Obama bent on teeing up these guys to do harm to us? How many times do these decisions have to bite us in the ass before he learns?

First off, how many times has it bitten "us in the ass?"

Secondly, do you have any evidence to support the notion that these individuals will be allowed to run free once they reach Senegal?

Third, do you have any other solution other than keeping individuals locked up forever without a trial?

Boko Haram and al Quaeda are on Senegal's doorstep. France intelligence has warned them.

Don't care about the "rights" of terrorists pulled from the battlefield in a raid.

Oh the uninformed.

First, the prisoners are NOT being released. They are being transferred to the custody of another country to be either legally incarcerated or legally under house arrest with strict restrictions on where, when and who they can meet.

Second, despite the outdated information provided on the Fox story (big surprise) the release of these detainees has been approved by the Pentagon, DIA, CIA as well as several other agencies.

I know, I know there is big conspiracy involving all these government agencies to release terrorist with no restrictions right??????

Why is the right almost always wrong?

Please be specific. Which released Gitmo detainees have attacked the U.S.? When and where were these attacks? What proof do you have that the Gitmo detainees were involved?

Senegal is hardly a shining example of stability and security. If said prisoners were to escape, they would have more than one place they could shelter. Not to mention the close proximity to the home turf of other Islamic radical groups.

Versus being held in a major US base in a friggin island. There's nowhere to go even if the prisoners did escape. The Cubans would shoot them if we didn't.

"Warned them" of what? "Warned" who?

Of course you dont.

Moral of the story here these two men have been cleared for release by the PRB.
"A six-agency task force that the Obama administration created to review each of the 242 prisoners remaining at Guantánamo when it took office in 2009 recommended transferring Mr. Ghereby if a place could be found that would treat him humanely while also keeping an eye on him.
That task force recommended continuing to hold Mr. Bakr, but in August 2015, a parole-like board, composed of the same six agencies, reviewed his case and decided that his continued detention was no longer necessary.
“While the board acknowledges the detainee’s past terrorist-related activities and connections, it found that the risk the detainee presents can be adequately mitigated by: the detainee’s significantly compromised health condition; the detainee’s record of compliance with camp rules, and positive, constructive role in the detention environment, including mediating concerns raised between other detainees and guard staff; and the detainee’s recent engagement with his family illustrating his intent to move forward in a positive manner,” the review board said in a statement when it recommend his transfer."

Boko Haram is fairly close by if they want to join up with the Islamic State.

If they wish to get back in touch with AQ, however, I'd suggest you take a look to see if Senegal shares a border with any nation whose name rhymes with "Mali".

Not this **** again... :doh

We caused this problem by creating a mechanism to house people indefinitely, outside of our system of laws, and without any idea on what to do with them. It was the dumbest thing we could have done and now that core problem is what is biting us on the ass.

We did this, and trapped politicians into continuing the practice or finding somewhere else to put them. Odds are, right back onto the battlefield as we have observed.

The only real way around this now is to continue this huge black eye on our policy of dealing with terrorism, or find some mechanism to get them through the courts. Either way has plenty of obstacles and consequences.

But wow, we really ****ed up with Guantanamo Bay.

Then try them and transfer to us prison system.
Oh yeah, the US Military severely ****ed up Military Tribunals from day 1 and kept at it trying to fix what could not be fiexed.
Einsteins definition of insanity- doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
When will the people learn the Military is not able to do certain things- Nation building is one.

Next educate your self on the Muslim Govt and peoples of Senegal.
The Govt is a democracy and fighting back.

Again, the procedure for procuring countries for transfer of Gitmo detainees requires certain minimum security protocols. That is one of the main reasons it takes so long to get countries to accept them. That being said each detainee has been reviewed by no fewer than 6 different agencies and all of them have to sign off on transfer. The worst assessments of recidivism by former Gitmo detainees is 6% since President Obama took office. The actual numbers are 7 confirmed returned to terrorism and an additional 5 are suspected for a grand total of 12. The detainees released by President Bush that have returned is approximately 111 with another 81 suspected. The fact is that the Obama administration has been exceedingly careful in transferring and or releasing Gitmo detainees compared with the previous administration. And of the approximately total over 190 expected recidivist all but handful (approximately 10-15) have either been recaptured and jailed or killed. The danger of releasing and/or transferring the detainees has been grossly over blown by the right wing noise machine. There is very little to no danger from the detainees being transferred under President Obama. That is the fact regardless of what the wrong, I mean, right wing media says.

So instead of continuing to careful select who to release and who to keep at Gitmo, you want to risk screwing up a system---which by your own admission is working, more or less---in favor of just letting everybody go, basically?

Hard to wage a jihad on an island. Much easier where your on the mainland and there's lots of room to run.

What are you talking about? Please quote where I stated to let everyone go? You are talking nonsense.

Letting everybody go..... From a highly secure location to one where it is easier to escape and they have the potential to do more damage once they do escape

Again please point out where and when I stated everyone should go? You keep wanting to argue against this strawman. Please point out where I suggested this or stop arguing as if I did.

Care to provide the portion of the Geneva Conventions where they are guaranteed a trial? FYI they are not unless they are charged with war crimes, if they are not then they can legally be held until the cessation of hostilities.

Dunno. But would we be more safe if they were here....or there?

Would you be comfortable if these fellas were released and moved in next door to you...??

(valid question)

LOL, I love how rapists, murderers, crime lords, and arsonists aren't a problem once they're behind bars. But OH MAH GAWD THA TERRISTS!!

What people don't realize is that Gitmo is one big bait and switch from the fact that, through our allies, we have other detention centers all over the world. The detainees will just go somewhere else so that the human rights travesty can continue.

The worst human rights violators on the planet are Muslims but something tells me you have never once made a post condemning those travesties, these Islamic Imperialist pigs are being afforded all the human rights they are entitled to and some which they aren't; such as, being served Halal food and having access to lawyers.

Nice personal attack.

I think you miss the point by a long shot. Regardless of what the enemy has done, we have a duty to uphold our values, otherwise we're fighting for nothing. Gitmo is the biggest black mark on the U.S. legacy in the entire war on terror. We signed the Geneva Convention, we agreed with the world that we would never torture people or do these kinds of questionable things. And yet here we are in a legal grey area doing whatever we want.

And how do you know how well they're treated at Gitmo? Did the U.S. give the media an open access tour that I wasn't aware of?
