Cincinnati native Otto Warmbier sentenced to 15 years hard labor in N.Korea [W: 106]

Re: Cincinnati native Otto Warmbier sentenced to 15 years hard labor in North Korea

He apparently tried to steal a hotel banner because his church had a deal with him to bring a trophy home in exchange for a car.

What a moron. I have no sympathy for him whatsoever.

Nice church! Probably a good idea to stop tithing there, doesn't look like the money's being spent too efficiently.

Ummmm....that's not true, you know. That's another story put out by the N.Korean govt. The church has said the guy and his family aren't even members of the church, though they know him 'cause he's friends with some guys who are members.

N Korea also said it was the a secret society (the Z society) at his university that put him up to it...and that hte Z Society is working with the CIA. The Z Society has been asked about this. A rep said that the idea that a group of kids at a university that get together and do a list of "nice" kids at the university, so they can give awards for being nice..the idea that the CIA would be in cahoots with a group of kids at their university is ludicrous. The Z Society said it doesn't even know the guy who's been arrested in N. Korea.

So, I think we get the idea. N Korea is making up all sorts of stuf to try to link his theft with some bigger thing.

Wow, if somehow a church was involved, that explains everything. Only some sort of zealot would go to a place like that. Ignorant and inspired, he marches on.

There have been and still are some famous Koreans when it comes to being clan leaders, having followers. They are all quasi religious.

Does anyone believe the turds who run North Korea? we have no idea what really happened other than this boy is being detained there and that he was a moron to even considering going to a communist cesspool.

I'm amazed that people are swallowing these weird stories put out by North Korea. Since when is North Korea truthful? North Korea is putting out several stories, trying to link the simple theft of a banner by the guy to something originating out of the evil United States. The guy and his family are NOT members of that church, although the church says its members are praying for the family (they know the kid, who is friends with some church guy members).

N Korea has said the kid was made to do the theft by a secret society at his university (the Z Society). There is a such a society. It's a society of a small group of students who meet to list kids at the U who do good deeds, and they give awards to those do-gooders. N Korea says the Z Society is in cahoots with the CIA. WHY would the CIA and their in-cahoots group of kids at the Z Society want the guy to steal a banner out of a hotel? Why, to undermine the North Korean government!

You just can't make this stuff up. Well, North Korea can.

Actually, I replied (post#126) to something POS had heard. I didn't research the source. But I agree, I don't understand why he's there in the first place.
