Murdoch: GOP 'would be mad' not to unify around Trump if he's nominee

On that, we agree completely. He tapped into a nerve of people that literally have no faith in their government anymore. You can only be lied to so many times, and like a true con man, he's swept in to be that "answer".

The Democrats and Republicans brought this on themselves. And yes, there are a LOT of Democrats supporting him. He might even take New York in a general election, which would be church.

God help us.

The Democrat Voters aren't nearly as angry as the Republican voters. Will some Dems vote for Trump? Of course. There's always a cross over. But don't count on the Dems to carry Trump, and definitely don't count on Trump carrying NY. He's not liked in NY, and he can forget NJ too. Christie's endorsement probably did him more harm in NJ then good. CC approval rating in NJ is somewhere in the mid 20's. Not good.

Unless some major negative event happens Clinton will be tough to beat. She's going to carry the women vote, especially younger women. She's going to carry the minorities. If she carries Florida, and she probably will, 4 out of the top 5 electoral vote states will be Blue, again. 4 out of 5? That's a hell of a hole for any Republican candidate to climb out of.

Elections are about turnout. She's not getting it. The GOP is. We'll see.

Dem voters turn out for presidential elections. Off years? Not so much. Primaries? Not so much, especially this year. Why would they? Clinton is pretty much a shoo-in.

They turned out for Obama, they'll turn out of her. Especially if she runs again unpopular candidates like Trump, or Cruz. Trump has a highest unfavorable rating than any body else. That's a big reason the GOP is doing hand stands to try and keep him from getting the nomination. After 2012's lost everyone and their mother told to GOP to win in 2016 they needed to make nice with minorities and women. Trump sure as hell ain't making nice.

You're just spouting the same old line. Every politician ever, anywhere, is the "definition of a con man".

I thought Trump wasn't a politician? Isn't that a part of his schti... I mean appeal?

Who won't be able to con enough voters to get himself a ticket to the White House.

Wait and see.

I hope you're right, but you may just be overestimating the intelligence of the average voter.

As are Cruz and Rubio.

Those two and Clinton are two sides of the same coin.

How exactly is Cruz establishment? The establishment hates him. Trent Lott, Bob Dole, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, and John McCain are just a few of the establishment names that have come out against Cruz. You can call Cruz a lot of things, but establishment isn't one of them.

I already addressed this and I agree with you.

I went off half cocked on Cruz.

Based on.... the same wishful thinking that led to Mitt Romney's landslide win in 2012?

Romney had that in the bag, then he went limp at the end thinking he could back off Obama. Fatal error.

And Hillary is impossibly lacking in charisma compared to Obama. She irritates the piss out of everybody, supporters or not.

After the nomination?

I think so. I think the established candidates - Ryan, McConnell, etc - know they're toast if this movement takes hold. I think they'd rather lose than watch Trump win, which is telling in itself.

And they can't rally to Cruz, because he's far more anti-establishment than Trump if truth be told.

They asked for our support in 2010 and got it. Then again in 2014 and got it. And they haven't done one damn thing they promised. Just marched in lockstep with Obama and filled the air with empty speeches and fake outrage. They're paying the price now, but they still are too incubated to realize it.

Trump is a clown, but symbolically, I'm enjoying this.

Oddly, Trump is the only hope of getting into the white house for them. If they have their brokered convention and don't elect Trump, there will be a revolution among republicans and a big chunk of them won't vote in the general. These people are so entrenched in self interest they will give up the presidency in order to protect their own hides. And I think in the end they will lose their hides as well. The only people doing this right are the democrats. They are watching in the sidelines with smiles on their faces. It is truly amazing that an entire political can flush itself down the toilet without giving it a second thought. They deserve what they are going to get if they don't support Trump.

I'll go you one further. This is the one year I think a third party candidate could win, so if they force Trump out, he might still win because of spiteful conservative voters and a Democrat base that is nauseated by Hillary.

This election shows just how pedestrian the candidates are becoming in presidential elections. Great people don't run anymore.

Washington asked for it. Now they're getting it.

I'm not going to argue with your assessment of Hillary, but I'm not sure that's reflected in actual data.

As for Romney, the polls were pretty steady throughout the race. Romney didn't implode at the end, he finished exactly where the polls predicted that he would finish. It was only a shock to the people who paid more attention to what they wanted to hear than the facts.
Despite what the polls say, Mitt Romney will win by double digits... here's why | RedState

It is interesting. Trump is fairly liberal. Add some unhappy democrats to the disenfrachised republican voters and it is entirely possible. What fun that would be.

You remember it wrong. In the final debate, Romney had Obama prone for the kill, and instead, he backed off.

The botched Benghazi catastrophe had just happened, healthcare was a mess, the economy was floundering.....all the advantages were with the strong businessman, and the polls reflected it. Then, for some reason, he just backed off like he had it in the bag. It was uninspiring, and people didn't show up. He got the same vote totals as McCain in the end. He needed those 2-fer independents to come over, and he spit the bit by going soft.
