Trump wins NASCAR Endorsement

Jack, I’m not complaining about your demeanor. I’m complaining about your integrity. I pointed out that you whined at an imaginary post and brought up the race card. After trying to deflect you then accused me of bringing up the race card. Jack, the Nascar CEO and some drivers endorsed Trump. In spite of your nascar ‘business update’, its newsworthy. Stop flailing at that.
There is a narrative being pushed that Trump is a racist. The fact that you are unable to see how this story connects with that narrative is not my fault or concern.

FTR, I'm not the only one who sees it...

Under Brian France's leadership NASCAR, albeit belatedly, has made public efforts to be more inclusive and move beyond its Southern roots as a white, male-dominated sport. That cultural shift began in 2004 with Drive for Diversity, a program to attract and train minorities and women to participate in the sport. The initiative has helped launch the careers of Kyle Larson, Darrell Wallace Jr. and Daniel Suárez, all of whom have achieved success within NASCAR's three national tours.

Wouldn't call him a racist so much as "Pandering Troll Level: 10000." I think if he locks up the nom he's going to at a very minimum lay off the racially charged messaging.

In a feeble attempt to defend the only sport left that I enjoy, it wasn't the NASCAR organization, it was the CEO speaking as a private citizen, one former driver and three current drivers who issued a message of support.

NASCAR has a huge following in this country. Any endorsement by any group, political or not that has lots of fans and supporters is likely to at least sway a couple voters who may have been on the fence between candidates.

That ended years ago.

NASCAR does not have political clout, and track attendance has been down horribly since 2007 or so.

They have lost their core fans over the years, and loosing to other auto racing competitors.

NASCAR support of any political candidate will carry little weight.

OTOH, NASCAR's early history of redneck white Southern fans might be enamored by Trump's pro KKK attitude - who knows?

I'm slowly coming to grips with the fact that he is going to be the nominee.

This is going to be the nastiest campaign in modern history.

NASCAR endorsing Donald Trump? Makes perfect sense to me.

Trump's pro KKK attitude -

Hillary Clinton has had several BLM activists thrown out of her events and detained. Then after her speaking engagement she personally puts on her KKK regalia and lynches them.

It already is - we can expect it to get much, much worse.

Absolute embarrassment to the US internationally already.

Jack, no one denies there is a narrative that trump is racist. There is also a narrative that he's a savvy businessman who cant be bought. For you to completely discount the newsworthy aspect that the Nascar CEO and some drivers endorsing trump and go right to the "its only news because it reinforces the narrative that trump is a racist" is the perfect example of "methinks you doth protest too much". Why didnt you immediately assume it reinforced the " savvy businessman who cant be bought" narrative.

Again, I find conservative southerners accepting and endorsing a NYer is quite newsworthy. Any trump endorsement is going to be news just like any "non endorsement" will be news

Sen. Jeff Sessions endorses Donald Trump - CNNPolitics.com

I don't see any implications of racism in that article either. And I would have expected this from a southerner

Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse won't vote for Trump - CNNPolitics.com

I didn't "completely" discount the newsworthy aspect. Obviously there has to be a component of the story that is newsworthy. It's just not the stuff that normally makes the front page but it does in this case because it fits the theme.

Don't expect many to pay close attention to the details. It doesn't fit into their agendas. "NASCAR=Redneck=Racist" to some people on here. Pretty sad.

Funny you should mention the Sessions endorsement. Your article doesn't mention racism but this one sure does...

Jeff Sessions's chequered past | Sarah Wildman | Opinion | The Guardian

A man with a chequered history linked to America's racist past. A man, who has been, arguably, waiting for this moment for the last two decades.

It's a stereotype that has been around for quite awhile. Same thing as Tea Party=Redneck=Racist.

Yup, I know. But my amusement here is exactly what that other poster pointed out (I said the same thing earlier). The CEO of NASCAR and a few racers endorsed Trump, and suddenly it's all of NASCAR (those evil racists). I'm waiting to hear that NASCAR is ejecting attendees from their events only because they're black...;)

front page of what? I bet you thought that was a winning phrase when you posted it but in retrospect even you have to realize you were scrapping for words to post. the endorsement was news and it was reported as news. Nothing you've posted changes that.

Jack, nobody said you couldn't find an editorial that calls trump a racist. The article in the OP didn't mention Trump's racism. You inferred "nascar =racism" and played the race card. And for reasons known only to you, you said I played the race card. Its why I questioned your integrity.

And you're refusal to acknowledge the not-so-subtle games that are being played here is why I question yours.
