Multiple deaths reported in Kansas workplace shooting

a psychologist I have known since we both attended the same grade school and who specializes in young adults-often those with court issues, notes that the "glorification" and the "fame" these active shooters get is part of the problem that causes others to engage in such idiocy. As my late father noted, he went to prep school during WWII and he and many of his classmates who were competitive rifle or shotgun shooters had easy access to firearms-yet no one got shot even though at that all boys prep school, there were plenty of fist fights. Later in college, my father was in the USNRs and had shore patrol after class meaning he would often attend class in uniform with his 45 caliber pistol on his hip which was what he carried on duty. He was not unique but no one ever got shot there either

Hell, as a youth, I could order guns from a Sears catalog and have them sent right to my house. No one I ever knew in the town I was raised, shot anyone.

So it's obama's fault?

He hasn't done a damn thing to help America! He was taught by Rev. Wright..."God Damn America"...and he does his best to make it so!

Yeah, people had a sense of honor back then; they settled disputes with fists and not by shooting people. It would have brought shame on the family back then to do something like that.
But they also didn't take anti-depressants and spend all their time alone in front of a computer, which I think is the real reason people are snapping and going ape s**t.

That's part of it. "I'm Special" is another part.

the poster I was responding to has called for complete ban on handguns

these tragedies are used by gun banners to justify their next round of restrictions

Come on, you know we need to ban guns. Just look what happened. That gun just jumped out of the guy's hands and started shooting all those people all by itself. It needs to be executed so that other guns get the message.

People have been going postal for decades now so this isn't anything new.

There used to be an arcade video game called Postal, in which you, a postal worker, won by shooting as many people as you can. It was one of my favorites, along with Death Race, in which you would try to run over as many pedestrians as possible. That was another one of my favorites.

I'd be curious to know how many of these mass shooters were taking prescription medications, Zoloft etc. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of connection.

Perhaps these people should be taking these medications because they're you know....insane?

Initial reports indicate the shooter was a felon and could not legally purchase or even handle firearms. His family however was aware that he had them and used them frequently.

The shooter:

Convicted of theft.
Domestic Battery.
Drug possession.
Fleeing police.
Battery on police.
Multiple parole violations.

Had posted online, pictures of himself with weapons, and shooting weapons. His family was aware of his weapons?

Red flags every where and nobody says anything about him having firearms?

Just a bit of an odd comment, I don't mean to get into a pissing match while a terrible tradegy is unfolding... But why would you hope it wasn't someone in particular when we have absolutely no idea and when it could just be a co-worker who lost his mind.

Yep! Sad deal for the victims..... Senseless

Four dead -- including the shooter. 14-15 wounded.

Could have been much worse but officers shot and killed Ford fairly quickly at the manufacturing plant because they were already following him. He'd been shooting random folks on the drive from his home in Newton -- 6 miles away from Hesston -- where he worked.

If his family knew of his criminal status(I would assume they would), and knew he wasn't supposed to posses firearms, they should be charged with something.

Sadly, he had children. What kind of legacy did he leave them?

well looks like the shooter wasn't white.... so we can rule out mental illness and prescription meds

He could have gotten his guns through normal, private sales right? Because there is no background check required for private sales?

the local news (Ch 12, CBS Cincinnati, at 11.02 EST) just interviewed the worker who was the work partner of the dead killer. Said he demonstrated NO hints of going postal.
No reason why someone taking Dr prescribed meds would.

Or maybe consumption of particular meds is making them snap.

Maybe it's a contributing factor. This specific guy received a restraining order (not to see a former girlfriend) earlier in the day yesterday, which might have put him over the edge. He had a couple of kids, maybe he thought it would affect being around them. On his Facebook he posted pics with his kids -- playing with them -- taking them to the zoo, etc.

Too bad you can't handle the truth......

Well stated! And the Looney Left believe this crap!

And that is a good thing for law abiding, decent folks.......but not for Felons.

Very sad for those kids, they will be ridiculed, teased and bullied. Not to mention they have lost their Dad.

He was served with a restraining order 90 minutes before the incidents.

So many people can't handle rejection at all. "It's all about me and that's all that really matters!

Selfish, entitled, inferiority complex and maybe drugs. With his criminal history, he was a **** up!

The real issue to be addressed is why people are going postal now as opposed to in the past. Guns have always been readily available, yet school and workplace shootings haven't occurred in the past like they are today.

something tells me it isnt a simple answer to a very complicated question

could be a LOT of different factors

but let me throw out a few

1. people arent allowed to fail anymore....kids get participation trophies....schools do everything within their power to keep pushing them further on, even if they arent ready for the next grade....so when life hits someone square in the face, and they really fail for the first time, they arent ready for it....they dont how to deal with it

2. violence everywhere....everything is filled with it....from the music people listen to, to the movies they see, to the video games they play....sure, we had chuck norris movies, and we had our fistfights....but then you shook hands after...win or lose....and a lot of times you became friends with the guy you just fought....now everything is over the net, over the phone....kids are bullied more over the net than they are in person....we have lost some of the personal contact skills that we desperately need

just two things i have noticed...maybe parts of the reasons....maybe not

did you simultaneously blame kids being for coddled, and exposed to too much violence? So you think we should teach kids to be ruthless competitors who will kill to win, but not expose them to any violence and we should also prevent them from bullying eachother?

i think maybe we ought to let our kids fail

i cant tell you how many times my team didnt win a trophy growing up....made me practice harder....and i never did win in little league....but disappointment became something that my dad told me life would deal me....and made it a life lesson for me

are we teaching our kids how to deal with losing? with failure? how to win with grace?

and yes, i think there is too much violence in today's society....what is the "right" amount? is it damaging kids? i dunno....

i just threw out two ideas on what could possibly be contributors.....i didnt say they were definite factors....

you can agree, disagree, or do what you did....post an idiotic statement

your choice....isnt life full of fun choices
