Girl, 10, dies after pushing young friends to safety
A 10-year-old California girl died while pushing two young friends to safety.
Now, a GoFundMe account for the family has raised nearly $32,000 for funeral and other expenses.
Kiera Larsen was struck by a runaway vehicle Monday after saving the lives of the 1-year-old and 2-year-old siblings, TV station KTLA in Los Angeles reports.
Addison and Emmah Jenkins, who were good friends of Kiera, escaped with only scratches, their mother told TV station KGTV in San Diego. “She saved both my daughters’ lives, my two kids, all I have, and both could have been gone in an instant. She stepped in and took over and did what she knows and that’s to protect those around her,” Alyssa Jenkins said.
The Mercedes SUV was parked on an incline, but investigators don’t know how the vehicle got into neutral and started rolling in reverse, KGTV reports.
A message on the GoFundMe page says, “The entire Larsen family cannot thank every single one of you for your love, support and prayers. You have no idea how much seeing the support from so many people has helped us during this incredibly tough time. Again, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.”

The word hero is bandied about often. But wow. What a sad, sad story. RIP Kiera.
