Hot Mic Captures Candid Off Air Conversation between Trump and 'Morning Joe' Hosts

Re: Hot Mic Captures Candid Off Air Conversation between Trump and 'Morning Joe' Host

Where is the proof that this actually happened? I'd like another source, please.

Re: Hot Mic Captures Candid Off Air Conversation between Trump and 'Morning Joe' Host

In 2008: McCain got 59,948,323 votes, 45.7% of the electorate.

In 2012: Romney got 60,933,500 votes, 47.2% of the electorate.

Contra your claims, Romney got more votes than McCain.

Bush in 2004 got ~40% of Hispanics. Romney got 27%.

Unfortunately, Donald Trump is trashing the GOP brand with Hispanics:

...In 2012, only 18 percent of Latino voters thought Mr. Romney was “hostile” toward Hispanic voters. By November 2015, the number who thought that had jumped to 45 percent. The largest shift was among those 18 to 35. More than three times as many young Latino respondents think the party is hostile toward them compared with 2012 results (a move to 65 percent from 18 percent in 2012)...

Yup. And if the Republican party cannot choose to reign in its anti-Hispanic rhetoric, then they can kiss the Hispanic vote bye-bye for a LONG time. :2wave:

The difference between our points of view, of course, being that you believe as you do because that's what you WANT to believe, whereas I once believed as you do...but I could no longer continue to drink the kool-aid. You look at Trump act as he has, use language as he has, and insult as he has on the world stage, and yet you still somehow think that's no different from Obama's conduct. This is known as cognitive dissonance...and no one but you can help you remove the blinders from your own eyes.

Re: Hot Mic Captures Candid Off Air Conversation between Trump and 'Morning Joe' Host

The bolded is wrong. The main reason Romney went down is that he wasn't the membership's candidate. He was anointed by the leadership. Republicans did not turn out for him. He got fewer votes than McCain, almost by the same margin he lost to Obama and McCain was no Hispanic candidate.

Do you think that the percentage of minority voters has not grown greatly since 1984? I see that I could have worded it differently, for the minorities are not a majority of the electorate (yet), but I meant that the percentage of voters who are minorities is much higher than it was in 1984.

If all that mattered was the white vote, then Romney - who got 59% of the white vote in 2012 - SHOULD have won handily (Reagan, in his huge freaking landslide, got 61% percent of the white vote). But Romney did not win. If the white vote was all that really mattered, then when Romney got 59% of the white vote, how can you possibly say that it was because Republicans did not turn out for him?

The big difference, sir, was how the minority vote went for the Democrats. That's what the data plainly show. You can claim otherwise all you want, but the numbers do not lie.

Re: Hot Mic Captures Candid Off Air Conversation between Trump and 'Morning Joe' Host

Hillary's mystique is that she has already won. The nasty battle with the little known Bernie is a repeat of her run against Obama, losing to an unknown. By rights that should tag her as an "almost" and would, I suspect, had she only to face Rubio or Rasich, maybe even Cruz.
Yes, I can see and I do acknowledge the similarities.
Trump is about the only candidate that will make her a sure thing.

Unless she starts winning outright, it will come down to a contested convention where Bernie will lose as a result of wrangling over rules etc. that will turn off many who wanted real change who will stay home. However, with the advent of Trump and the terror he inflicts [people are actually thinking of voting for a dead guy they are so afraid] people will rally behind Clinton to keep the country "safe" against the "tyrant" Trump.

If I were a conspiracy type, I would wonder if Trump isn't running to assure Hillary's victory in the White House

With as high a her negatives are, is her winning outright a real possibility? I'm rather doubtful on that count. Surely the electorate recognizes her for what she is and has been, namely the epitome of corruption, amorality, establishment and DC insider, political elite, and someone of that record to be elected POTUS? In this election? WIth the present mood of the electorate? Hmm. Very likely the nation is in even more trouble than any realize.

Trump seems to be one step ahead of all the pundits. They've called for his implosion for months, and it's yet to materialize. One thing he appears to be missing from his events and stumps is something substantive on policy. That would be his greatest weakness as I see it, and yet, I have a feeling that this is a weakness of his that he'll be bolstering when he feels the time is right, and it won't be with his previously wild comments. Perhaps the next iteration of Trump from primary candidate to presidential candidate will put some policy meat and substance on those bones.

Then again, perhaps not. We'll have to wait and see.

Mind you, I have no love of Trump, and have said all along that he doesn't really want to win, and that he's useful from the stand point of bringing forth the topics that the no politician, especially establishment politicians, wanted to talk about. His running has made those candidates address those topics.

If it gets down to a Trump / Hillary general, I wonder which constituents are going to pull the level the most and who'll have to hold their noses that hardest.

Re: Hot Mic Captures Candid Off Air Conversation between Trump and 'Morning Joe' Host

I heard yesterday that she hasn't taken media questions at her live events since December.

In fear of what questions even her controlled news media might pose? :lamo

I say you are in more trouble than the average citizen realizes. This is either the turning point or the beginning of one.

First, all of the negatives about Hillary mean nothing outside of debates like these. Her numbers remain strong and she has successfully established herself as a martyr. She will win the Dem nomination if it kills the party.

Trump is ahead of everyone, not only the pundits. The media and "Washington insiders" have been sneering at him since he announced. Everyone has been waiting for his ultimate 'collapse'

It isn't coming. Unless something huge happens Trump will be the standard bearer for the Republicans. If he faces Bernie he wins, and Hillary will make sure everyone knows this, if Trump faces her, she wins.

Forget Bernie. He's an older version of George McGovern

I have to admit, I'm not liking the picture you are painting. But that doesn't mean that I'm unable to acknowledge the truth in what you are say.

Re: Hot Mic Captures Candid Off Air Conversation between Trump and 'Morning Joe' Host

For anyone who has been watching the Morning Joe Knob-Polishing treatment of Trump, this isn't astonishing.

MSNBC should go ahead and treat these two as though they had endorsed him. You don't have to fire them, you just have to start shaping content and coverage to keep them off the topic.

I would say that we need to bring the media to their knees, but that would be meaningless, since they are already on their knees. No wonder Trump is smiling. LOL.

It is highly unattractive and I don't like it either. But, clearly character is no longer a desired trait in an American president. The irony here is that I am reading again Peggy Noonan's biography of Reagan called When Character was King. I did not like him when he was in office but looking back he did have character. You would never hear him falsely claiming to have dodged sniper fire.....he was the last president to be shot. Now think about how he handled that compared to how Hillary or Trump would handle that.

Re: Hot Mic Captures Candid Off Air Conversation between Trump and 'Morning Joe' Host

Which means that you (likely deliberately) missed the sarcasm.

You need to tell yourself that, fine. I saw no sarcasm, I saw a bitter Democrat who can't stand the fact a racist schlub like Trump is wining so like all lefties you're whining.

But it was still a stupid post. Your hate for Trump has overcome logic I'm afraid.

You didn't see sarcasm not because it wasn't there, but because that's what you wanted to believe. In fact, I'd say there's a good chance that you did see the sarcasm and still do, but are choosing instead to claim otherwise, if only to score points in your own eyes or in the eyes of those who think as you do. And that's truly said, if that is indeed the case.

He was also the only sitting president to survive getting shot. When Reagan was in the operating room to get the bullet removed he said to the surgeons, "I hope you are all Republicans." The head surgeon just happened to be a liberal and replied, "Today Mr. President, we are all Republicans".

I don't think it's fair to draw a conclusion based on a false premise such as how someone will handle getting shot if they've haven't been shot.

Re: Hot Mic Captures Candid Off Air Conversation between Trump and 'Morning Joe' Host

Should these two be reprimanded in some form or fashion? Does this conversation lend any credence to the theory that Donald Trump will have (or has) cross party appeal? Is this evidence of media manipulation by Trump and/or audience manipulation by the media?

As much as I'd like to beat up on Trump; this just isn't the issue to do it. Everyone who arranges interviews does this with the media and the media are typically happy to accept those conditions as the cost of exclusivity. Once in awhile you'll find a real journalist who bucks the negotiated subject matter rules, but mostly they've whored out their ethics and journalistic integrity in the name of ratings.

I largely tend to agree. There are numerous other issues for which Donald Trump deserves a great deal of criticism and this particular event is probably not in the top 100. The post was mostly aimed towards the Morning Joe hosts and towards the types of manipulation being achieved by both Trump and the media organizations that wish to avoid criticizing him too starkly because of an overt desire to obtain ratings.

It's an interesting question. I think people just have to ask themselves what the program is. If it's a political punditry show then there's a different standard because those people aren't journalists and should be expected to display their biases. These days there isn't much in the way of journalistic news. Almost all programming on every media station is a punditry show.
