Russia has promised to protect Kurdish fighters in Syria in case of a ground offensive by Turkey, a move that would lead to a “big war,” the Syrian group’s envoy to Moscow said in an interview on Wednesday.

“We take this threat very seriously because the ruling party in Turkey is a party of war,” Rodi Osman, head of the Syrian Kurds’ newly-opened representative office said in Kurdish via a Russian interpreter. “Russia will respond if there is an invasion. This isn’t only about the Kurds, they will defend the territorial sovereignty of Syria.”

The Kurds are worth protecting. They have been good allies to the USA, but Obama seems to have decided to give them insufficient support. Also, he let the chance of getting rid of Assad. Now that window seems closed. And our man has no valid excuse. Putin out maneuvered us and is doing so in this case too.

Fingers crossed Russians will start establishing bases close to the Turkish border to stop an invasion.

This conflict is getting more and more bizarre in terms of alliances.

Russia is backing Assad. Turkey is opposing Russia. The Kurds oppose Turkey. Turkey seems to want to wipe out the Kurds. Turkey is a member of NATO. The US supports the Kurds. The US and Russia are adversaries on a number of different fronts.

Does anyone have the short version of how these lines seem to have gotten so blurred?

How are there any Kurdish people left? It seems like they have just been dying left and right since the 70s.

Turkey needs to be booted out of NATO.

While they should we should also not loose sight of the fact that we have a Muslim ally, no matter how tenuous where we can make some headroads...

With a mafia government that has talked about pulling false flag attacks as an excuse to invade other nations while buying the oil from terror groups.

The Russians have long claimed that Turkey was buying ISIS oil.

Which they provided evidence for. Shortly after the Russians bombed the convoys.

Putin laid out a pretty persuasive case at the G20. I was surprised that it seems to have gone largely ignored by MSM.

Of course it went ignored, he exposed what they were doing.

That's hard to believe as long as Turkey is a member of NATO.

I don't think Turkey cares that much, it is just looking for the go ahead from the Obama administration to whether or not they are allowed to invade.

I doubt Turkey gives a flip what Obama has to say about what they see as an internal national security issue. If Turkey invades Syria to attack the Kurds, the US would probably not support their actions either politically or materially. However, if Russia attacks Turkey, for pretty much any reason (except if Turkey invaded Russia proper) then NATO would be bound to come to their aid, and Putin wouldn't want that. But, maybe he would, and he's trying to provoke Turkey with the Kurds to get them to invade. Russia taking over Turkey would give Russia complete access to the Med from the Black Sea and a more direct land route to Southwest Asia. Who knows?

The U.S. and Russia could be allies against ISIS but OBAMA is too busy giving money and weapons to "moderate rebels" allied with or sympathetic towards ISIS. And we wonder why we haven't made any progress in the M.E.

Well you see, Robin Thicke stole the beat from one of Marvin Gaye's songs...

Nobody told Turkey to pull their collective heads out of their ass accept Russia. The pivot point of this whole circle jerk is Turkey.
