Watch 1,400 US Workers Learn Their Jobs Are Moving to Mexico

I guess this was the purpose of NAFTA, to give US companies the option of moving manufacturing jobs to Mexico so they don't have to pay American workers their wages. Instead they can pay workers in Mexico a few dollars a day and pocket the difference.
Why did Bill Clinton sign NAFTA? The results have been disastrous.

That was negotiated and signed first by the first President Bush, though I recall talks going on as far back as Reagan.

This was part of the globalization push every POTUS since JFK has been pushing upon us. Always at the direct opposition to the will of the American people. The effects of leveling the playing field does indeed bring the low spots up, but it also brings the high spots down. Welcome to the age our lying politicians have brought us to.

I haven't bought an American car in nearly 20 years, and I'll never buy another. They are my political enemies, and I will not contribute to their coffers.

I haven't really either, I own GM. I recently bought a Chev 3500, oh wait, the motor is build by Izuzu.

You bring them in, if Americans are not willing or capable of competing, you mean?

I think you know that Mexicans will work for lower wages than Americans. That's why they have jobs here.

Nope. Americans will have to become more productive, so laborers around the world are not the employees of preference. If we want to earn ten times their wages, we will have to produce better than they do.

The other way is to demand higher wages for ALL workers everywhere. Productivity is not a problem when corporations are posting record profits and margins.

And let's not forget. In return for our sending manufacturing to Mexico, they demand the US take their failed citizens and give them educations, healthcare, and housing, in order for them to send a big part of the money they exploited from the US back home. And they get outraged when we try to stop them.
Mexico, what an awesome, and forever failed, country.
From your description it's not Mexico that's failing.

Patriotism is alive and well, just ask anyone who isn't liberal. 30 years ago, "Kill a Commie for Mommy" was very patriotic, good thing for the dems not many of us are that Patriotic anymore.

:lamo
Oh yeah, all them conservatives, they's pro-'MURICA! :lamo

Why can they work for less than Americans? Is that because the Americans are on dole and don't have to? ;)

Sure. Tell the Chinese that they should price their exports such, that Americans can no longer have cheap t-shirts and mobiles.

I was looking for a job when I found this one.

Get a haircut and get a real job!

The Chinese manufacturing wages are already rising at 12% a year, they expect their workers to be able afford a home with all the amenities and a car very soon. If they are going to be a consumer economy they need to have consumers that make decent wages. That's what you seem to keep forgetting. Most workers SPEND their wage increases in the economy boosting growth and GDP.

Really ? You're blaming ONLY the left wing for championing free trade ?

You want to put in a more regulated economy ?

Your incredulity appears to know no bounds.

My kickass f150 doesn't care about your petty grudge.

If this had happened 8 or 9 or even 10 years ago, it would have been all "Bush's fault" but I keep reading in this thread how the OP is only bashing the left unfairly?

Oh, the irony. And the humor, don't forget the humor.

Oh good, use your own speculation to justify your partisan hackery.

Great job !!

Because there is no corporate welfare, so companies have to pay people enough to live off of, which means they also need to keep their prices low enough that people can buy what they make on their salaries.

And then there is the whole quality of life thing.

I mean, I get it. All of us here in america, we should be living like mexicans, and if only we were willing to do that, none of us would have any problems, and this would be a concervative wonderland!

Bush Sr is one of my least favorite people, in any area of life. You don't have to remind me what kind of president he was. Does any of that excuse Clinton for being the actual signer of NAFTA? Nope.

The globalization you talk about is real, and it only benefits the extremely wealthy. Someone in Mexico making $5.10 per day isn't being done any favors, and would probably love to come to America, where they'll earn more in a single hour than they did in an entire day in Mexico. Which brings me to the other lie Clinton told about NAFTA; that it would solve our illegal immigration problem by creating good jobs in Mexico.

So I have a question.

This company packs up and moves, and it only kills 1,400 jobs. Why is this headline news? This **** is everywhere.

My company ALONE cut over 2,000 jobs last year, ALL management, all over 40K per year. But yet that's not news. Is it because it's retail? Nobody cares about what happens in the retail industry?

A crowd of Carrier manufacturing workers erupted into anger Wednesday as they learned their plant was being relocated to Monterrey, Mexico.
Carrier, an Indianapolis-based heating, ventilation and air conditioning company owned by United Technologies, announced in a statement on Wednesday that the plant would undergo a three-year transition to Mexico starting in 2017.

A man identified as company president Chris Nelson was recorded on camera delivering the news to a large crowd of employees, who reacted with jeers and obscenities.

One person can be seen walking out of the meeting.

At one point, Nelson pleads with the crowd to quiet down so he can continue with the statement, saying "I've got information that's important to share as part of the transition."

“This was an extremely difficult decision. It was made most difficult because I understand that it will have an impact on all of you, your families, and the community.”

This is a bunch of total bull****. Don't talk down to people as if it really hurts to put over a thousand people in the drink as if they don't matter and never did.

I remember Ross Perot describing the effects of NAFTA as creating a "big sucking sound" as American jobs headed south. The Carrier people have been "sucked" I guess and I don't blame them for being angry. We often fail to understand that these trade agreements and treaties cause us to compete directly with other countries. The management at Carrier is left with no options if they wish to remain competitive in their industry.

And we wonder why middle class wages haven't risen. They never will until we start bringing the jobs back home.

Didn't Bush Sr talk about a "one world order"? How do the ultra wealthy achieve a one world order? By breaking down borders, mixing all populations together, and lowering the living standard of the middle class and working class.

Least he had the balls to get up there and say something. Some places, they don't even get that. Just a stack of pink slips, and then a change to the alarm codes/keys to the building.

The Chinese economy has been made off the back of Americans, and they still counterfeit our goods and the government does nothing to stop it, even though those counterfeits kill people every year.
And the American stockholders like Bill O'Reilly love it, all while pretending to be a patriotic, flag waving American.

Donald Trump wants to put a stop to American jobs being shipped overseas.
