BURNS, Ore. (Reuters) - The four holdouts in the armed occupation of a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon surrendered on Thursday with the last protester repeatedly threatening suicide during a dramatic final phone call with mediators before he gave up, ending the 41-day standoff.

Finally, the last holdouts in Oregon have been arrested, after one of them threatened to go David Koresh on them and kill himself.

And the father, Cliven Bundy, has now been arrested for assault on a Federal officer.

These punks are actually getting off easy. They should have been charged with treason.

Another episode of criminals, disguised as patriots, now comes to an end. To hell with them. Let them rot.

What would the treason be exactly?

I like how the feds handled this and of course hate how the media likes to **** with anyone handling things in a calm manner - they want to constantly stir that pot.

I thought this was over and done with awhile ago.

Well, the fact that it was handled relatively calmly means everyone is racist because, you, know if these folks had been black...

(just wanted to beat the race baiting rush)

Exactly. How, exactly, did these people try to overthrow the government or kill any representative of the government? Some people don't know what the hell treason is.

I do not have a problem with their cause, but rather the means to achieve it. I said when it started the best thing was for police to wait it out, while others were calling for swat team to raid them. End result they did not become martyrs for any cause, they crumbled under pressure, and no ruby ridge or waco type stuff going on here.

I almost imagined it happened like this. Police surrounded the place, turned their backs and left many places to escape, and yelled out I hope none of yall try to escape and make our jobs easier, if we miss the superbowl we are gonna be pissed.

Dana's kinda lost his mind a little bit over this whole thing.

Actually, it's the Bundys that lost their minds, thinking that they could break the law, and believe that they are above the law, and get away with it.

Wouldn't necessarily disagree but I've seen stories of rapes and murderers where you wanted less blood (figuratively).

You are derailing the thread. This isn't about Bill Cosby.

About bloody time.

Why the 'f' did they wait so BLOODY long to boot these guys out?

I think you'll find they tried, but nobody came to their revolution.

Probably to avoid a situation like Waco or Ruby Ridge. I'd say the way this whole situation was handled was rather brilliant, public perception wise. And it ended non-violently (with one exception) which is more than anyone could ask for.

Public perception?

All this stand off taught me was that the feds are spineless and that you can occupy a federal/state facility for weeks/months without the Feds moving in.

Other then any innocent children that maybe part of an occupation, I have zero empathy for the occupiers. They are adults and are their by choice.

I say as before - give 'em an hour. If they won't come out, force them out. If they offer armed resistance, shoot 'em. Stun them if you can. But if you can't and they are fighting back, shoot 'em.

You cannot just have people taking over government properties whenever they wish and holding them for weeks/months.

BTW, the ONLY regret I have about the death toll at Waco was that children/law enforcement personnel died. I could care less that almost all the Branch Davidians perished. Again, adults were there by choice. Their deaths are their own responsibility.

Meh...no reason to go in guns blazing. It was just an empty birdhouse after all. Besides in the next six months we'll hear about all the criminal charges these guys racked up. Probably 25 years worth each would be my guess.

I didn't say go in guns blazing. I said force them out. If they start shooting at the cops, then shoot the occupiers...as police would do under any circumstances.

I don't care what kind of facility it was, it is government property.

And what possible good does it do to let them stay there for weeks/months? What if they refuse to come out no matter what? Eventually you are going to have to force them out - might as well do it sooner rather then later.

Plus, if you force them out right away, it discourages any others from trying something similar.

You disagree? Fine.

Just curious. What would have made this a happier moment for you?

I don't know. What's wrong with waiting and racking up charges on the idiots while they do? I thought it was a brilliant strategy, no martyrs. They killed one guy, and he is on film showing him reaching for a gun. Perfect.

But waiting to what end? What if they will never come out on their own? Are you going to let them stay forever? And there is no way to know how long they will stay. So if you are probably going to have to force them out eventually, why not do it right away?

And again, if the occupiers threaten violence against the police, then they deserve everything they get.

To me, it is simple. Remove them immediately...breaking the law is breaking the law. If they go peacefully, remove them peacefully. If they resist with non-lethal force, then remove them with non-lethal force (if possible). If they threaten to/start to shoot, remove them with any means necessary. You cannot just threaten to shoot cops. But get them out of there immediately.

And the faster you remove them, the less likely someone else will try something similar.
