42% of Democrats are in favor of socialism - MarketWatch

That may explain why, in a separate survey, less than half of Americans said they would vote for a socialist president (sorry, Bernie). Indeed, only 47% of Americans said they would vote for a president who was a socialist, according to a survey of 1,500 adults released by Gallup last year, which looked at 11 types of candidates people would be willing to vote for, including a woman, gay or lesbian, Muslim and evangelical.

Among Democrats, 59% would do it, while among Republicans just 26% would. “Republicans and Democrats differ most in their willingness to vote for a socialist candidate, by 33 percentage points,” according to the Gallup data.

Me, me, me, me, me, me..........screw the country.

Holy moly, what has happened to this once great nation?

You really should read the polls you refer to. It did not ask if you where in favor of socialism, but whether you had a favorable opinion of socialism, which is somewhat different. To use an example, I have a favorable opinion of Marco Rubio, he seems like a decent guy trying to make the country better as he sees it. This does not mean I am in favor of him as president, and in fact the opposite is true.

When you ask a democrat if they have a favorable opinion of socialism, they are likely to think about things like social security, Medicare, public works such as roads and bridges, all of which are, to some degree, socialist programs. And now you know the rest of the story.

I'm guessing that 99% of that 42% has no idea what a socialist is.

interesting article

the right is....

twice as likely to vote for a muslim than a socialist (lol)

15% more likely to vote for a gay or lesbian than an atheist

twice as likely to vote for a woman or african american than an atheist

almost 3 times as likely to vote gay or lesbian than a socialist

The only significant intolerance on the left compared to the right is evangelical Christians, which is most likely over abortion.

Depends on the type of Socialist. Bernie Sanders is a Democratic Socialist. So was FDR. Bernie Sanders is not a Communist type of Socialist, nor is he a National Socialist (Hitler). It is too easy to bend definitions to the way you would like them to be, but that doesn't make them true.

So you still have not read the poll. Here, let me help: https://d25d2506sfb94s.cloudfront.net/cumulus_uploads/document/467z1ta5ys/tabs_OP_Socialism_20160127.pdf. Not only does it not ask what you claim, the one question about Sanders does not have that 47 % number. Please do try and read before posting nonsense.

Edit: oh, I see, you are referencing the unattributed poll numbers from your original source. Best not to trust that source, they have not exactly been accurate, and unattributed numbers are generally not good ones.

His numbers are wrong anyway, and he is claiming a result that was not even asked by the poll.

We let our schools get taken over from Washington, we let our children be zombified in colleges run by idiots, we forgot there are real dangers out there. Most people under 30 have no historical sense, no appreciation of the past, they only know envy.

Oh, FDR, that guy that started our nation from greatness to poverty, what a role model, what a hero. Where once we were individuals that cared for each other we now demand taxes for free stuff. FDR, what a great guy, hope he's burning in hell.

Because America was in such a good place before FDR. /s

It certainly wasn't perfect, however FDR changed the dynamic of the country. Before FDR, people didn't look to Washington to solve problems, they relied on their local communities, their local government, state government. Now... more and more we look to washington, and more and more the country goes to hell.

I know you won't ever get this, or see this problem, that's sad really.

An interesting story.

I what percentage of Republicans favor fascism or plutocracy?

we have seen 80+ years of people becoming addicted to suckling on the federal teats-is there any surprise that so many of the sucklers will continue to vote for others to be taxed to pay for their milk? FDR knew what he was doing and it was to create a permanent class of perpetual children who need and depend on their Democrat masters to take care of them and make the tough decisions for them

Not Arizona. Arizona refuses to listen to Washington regarding education. We rank 48th in the nation doing it our way. We have a Tea Party governor and a very Tea Party legislature. They love privatized prisons and charter schools funded by tax payer vouchers. Arizona is ranked 1st in the deepest cuts to higher-education, a 42% decrease in funding, and 1st in the steepest tuition hikes.

Our Tea Partisan Koch supported first term governor believes these drastic cuts in education from K through college will attract a hell of a lot businesses to Arizona. Even the very Republican Phoenix newspaper thinks the governor is nucking futs. But you seem to understand the governor's logic. Maybe you should move here and have your kids get an Arizona education. If they graduate from college they can move back to Texas because they won't find many jobs in Arizona.

FDR said:
"For three long years I have been going up and down this country preaching that Government--Federal and State and local--costs too much. I shall not stop that preaching. As an immediate program of action we must abolish useless offices. We must eliminate unnecessary functions of Government--functions, in fact, that are not definitely essential to the continuance of Government. We must merge, we must consolidate subdivisions of Government, and, like the private citizen, give up luxuries which we can no longer afford"

Sounds like a GOP stump speech to me

That's nice. It's gotta be the TEA PARTY, other factors, it's cause the state is run by people that don't look to Washington to send lots of money and solve problems!

Well stated!

And as an aside, I guess this would make Trump a National(ist) Capitalist!

This stuff is all covered pretty well in H.S. history though, and I'm blown away so many people are having problems with it. We studied Communism & Socialism in Grammar School, for Chrissakes! (maybe influenced by the Felician Sisters being Polish, though - Poland was still under the U.S.S.R then).

For some reason, substantial numbers of Americans have difficulty understanding Socialism, Socialism in it's various forms, and differentiating Socialism itself from social policy or social assistance.

Benefit names like "Social Security" probably aid in causing confusion amongst the unawares.

And then there's the politicians & lobbyists who are willing to label virtually any matter "Socialist", if it will further their political goals and carrers.

So to me, a response like this (40% positive) does not strike me as alarming or unusual.

Doug Ducey is a ****ing moron. He almost makes Brownback look legitimate.

It is a sign of a personality disorder to hope those you disagree with politically burn in hell. Not to many people that lived in the United States while FDR was in office would share your opinion of him. He was even Reagan's childhood hero.
