Pro-choice group cries foul over Doritos commercial 'Ultrasound' | Fox News

A pro-choice group kicked off a corn chip controversy Sunday night when it mocked a Doritos commercial as being “anti-choice” for using the “tactic of humanizing fetuses.”

Some viewers laughed, while others were a little put off by the “Ultrasound” ad, which showed a fictitious fetus kicking around in the womb as its oblivious and expectant father munched on Doritos. But few took the advertisement as seriously as NARAL Pro-Choice America, which tweeted “#NotBuyingIt – that @Doritos ad using #antichoice tactic of humanizing fetuses & sexist tropes of dads as clueless & moms as uptight. #SB50.”

Are you kidding me?

I don't find the ad offensive because it is anti choice, what I found offensive was the ending of the ad.

Boo!! I didn't watch the Superbowl and the video was taken down! Stupid copyright claims. :(

I thought the commercial was hilarious. I'm actually amazed that some people are having a hissy fit over it. Great commercial.

**** the NARAL, they can go pound sand.

OMG, humanizing human fetuses. Oh the...well...humanity.

Just search up "doritos ultrasound commercial"

Youtube only wished that it could track down every upload of the commercial. It's there for you to see. EZ.

Of course, if the doc had gone after it with a vacuum cleaner, that wouldn't have been offensive.

How's the commercial anti-choice btw?

Edit: Never mind, I see that "humanizing" the human fetus is an "anti-choice tactic".

Do you find it funny that the baby leaped out of its mother womb too early? I keep wondering what if the baby died after pulling off that stunt.

It's a commercial, a joke. If you're as squishy as a butterfly then don't watch it.

I'd reckon that at least 90% of the population would be able to look at that commercial and not be offended by it (now whether they find it humorous or not is a different question!).

I was just seperating my complaint from the one made by the group in the original article.

I got the impression that the ad depicted a fetus killing itself over a Doritos chip.

I didn't see that at all. The mom grabbed the chip and threw it; the baby dove into the birth canal and, judging by the look on both mom and the doctor, managed to free itself to pursue the tossed chip.

It was funny, unoffensive, and all I can say is that some people will look for anything to take offense at, and others will look for anything to... oh, never mind. It was a funny commercial. That's it.

the unanswered question was how far along the baby was in development when it launched itself out of the womb.

I got the impression from that ad that the baby came out too early and aborted itself.

I saw it. It was quite a--wait for it--cheesy ad.

Apparently there are a lot of "clueless dads" and "uptight moms" over at NARAL who disagree.

The obvious animation was fully developed, or close to it. I just can't even conceive how anyone would put an ideological, either pro-choice or pro-life, taint on something so... laughably preposterous in the first place!

If I recall from seeing/reading last night, it was made by some Aussies, you know people I'm sure who are suuuuppper interested in abortion in America. Silly NARAL or w.e your dumb organization's name is.

My complaint is not based purely on idealogy, it is in the way the ad does not show what happened to the baby after it left the womb.

If the ad had ended by showing the mother holding the fully developed baby in her arms, and baby with dorrito dust on its lips, I would not be complaining. The problem is that the ad does not show what happened to the baby after it got out of the womb, it just cuts to a bag of Doritos and that's it. Joke or not, The ending of the ad leaves room for doubt as to whether the baby came out intact or as a bloody mess.

It was probably a little distasteful-pun intended, but i wouldn't call it super offending or anything..just ineffective advertising

Even if you assumed the worst, why would it "bother" you?

That all started because companies got pissy over their copyright claims. I can understand getting upset when your music gets shared , but I just can't get my head around the logic of a company getting upset over their ad getting shared for free. Oh no, people are seeing my ad at no cost to me! What will the world be like when I don't have to pay to get my ad seen by millions!

But yeah, I know I can just google for the ad. I wonder why pro-choice groups would get mad over an ad about about a fetus this late in the pregnancy? Do you think that any pictures of the unborn before birth will change peoples minds about abortion?

The doctor actually states “Any day now” in the beginning of the Commercial. That would indicate that the baby is close to term.
