Pretty serious stuff now. Mutation from mosquito borne to sexual contact (if true) is very serious.

I've read that most people will develop an immunity to Zika but many will be affected in the meantime.

Ungood, this wouldn't be so much of a problem if it weren't for the impact on pregnant women.

Wow, this changes things drastically. I didn't know Zika had the capability to be spread through sexual contact. The Olympic Summer Games are being held in Rio De Janeiro this year, which is a city known for its party atmosphere. Zika could progress worldwide if this story is true.

Now there are two cases of it in Australia.

I know a mosquito can't fly from Rio to Sydney, so something is contaminated, and it's travelling the globe.

Bananas?

They can indeed, they're called airplanes and mosquitoes can ride them just like humans do.

There's no prove link between Zika and microcephaly.

The symptoms of Zika are minor.

Until there's a solid link between Zika and microcephaly, I find it hard to work myself up into a frothing fear over it.

Gives new meaning to the term "Pinhead". LOL.

Well aphids can't go from australia to america naturally, but they got here. All they need to do is hitch a ride, which they did which is why we imported their natural predator, the evil vicious deadly ladybug!

I can imagine mosquitos with the virus did not fly here, but traveled along ships and planes between countries.

That's easy. Eggs and/or larvae in freshwater from rainfall, most likely on the deck of a ship. What's amazing is how stagnant and low in DO the water can be and the little critters do just fine. Observed this in a tank of waste water I drained off an aquaponics system used to water an adjacent conventional garden. A few tiny tilapia solved the problem.

I don't think that necessarily qualifies as a mutation.

Has the possible sexual transmission case excluded the possibility that the man's luggage carried an infected mosquito, rather than him carrying an adapted virus?

We're getting hit with the okeydoke on this Zika virus thing.

From the CDC:
"State birth defects tracking systems have estimated that microcephaly ranges from 2 babies per 10,000 live births to about 12 babies per 10,000 live births in the Unites States."
Facts about Microcephaly | Birth Defects | NCBDDD | CDC

So, microcephaly isn't some new rare disease. In the same link:
"Researchers are also studying the possible link between Zika virus infection and microcephaly."

So they aren't even sure if Zika is linked to microcephaly. If so, why did they immediately show us images of children with this defect when they talked about Zika?

From the WHO website:
"Zika virus is an emerging mosquito-borne virus that was first identified in Uganda in 1947 in rhesus monkeys through a monitoring network of sylvatic yellow fever. It was subsequently identified in humans in 1952 in Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania."
WHO | Zika virus

So Zika has been around and well known for nearly 70 years. No link to microcephaly was ever noted prior to this year. Zika itself isn't even all that dangerous to humans. So why are we suppose to be terrified of it now?

Drug Industry Starts Race to Develop Zika Vaccine - WSJ

So we have fear and the drug industry ready to give us a cure even before we knew there was something to be afraid of.

That my friends, is the okey-doke.

Wonder how long before in some circles this gets blamed on the wanderings of a gay flight attendant.

Serious for pregnant or to be pregnant women, everyone else not so much. That said think more women will demand their male partners will demand they wear a condom, let's hope, the reduction in unwanted pregnancies, births and yes abortions would be a bonus besides the reduction in the spread of other sexually transmitted diseases.

I really hope that zika doesn't mutate into Chirpies, because that a canaryal disease that's untweetable.
