Carson accuses Cruz camp of spreading false rumors on campaign suspension | Fox News

Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson on Tuesday pointedly accused Ted Cruz’ campaign of spreading false rumors during the Iowa caucuses claiming the retired neurosurgeon was suspending his bid, in a coordinated effort to seal Cruz’ victory Monday night.

The stunning charge came as a Carson spokesman declared, “There has never been a more tainted victory in the Iowa caucuses.”

Early reports that Carson – who was directly competing with Cruz for social conservative and evangelical supporters – was leaving the campaign trail started to surface as caucusing began Monday evening
Looks like either Cruz knew or some crazy supporters (incl one elected official) went rogue.

Well this should end in... a punchline. That is about it.

Meh.... well that kind of tactic wouldn't have worked if there were not already fear of Carson dropping out because of falling poll numbers anyway.

Wow, Ben Carson finds out that politics can be mean.

I think that the bigger question is - does this harm the image Cruz uses to sell himself to Conservative Christians, who may not think Carson should be President, but think very highly of him.

It wouldn't be so effective it it wasn't so believable.

I mean, in theory all the candidates are supposed to have a rep at each caucus to represent the candidate and lobby for votes. For this kind of ruse to work, assuming it's true, Carson would either have to have a weak ground game, or terrible reps, or both.. in which case 9% is all you can expect.

This hurt Cruz, who desperately needs his share of Carson voters to come over. I suspect they'll venture over to Rubio now.

I think there was a chance Carson might have dropped out for real AFTER Iowa, which would have meant many of his supporters would have move to the Cruz camp for N.H. But because of this I think Carson will stay in just to piss off Cruz and to keep his supporters from moving to Cruz for the next few primaries.

Maybe, or maybe Carson will endorse Rubio at the end of his run.

I hope so.

Yeah. As long as we're wishing, we might as well wish for the better outcome. I think Rubio could beat Trump. Ted's nature seems to be to go for the throat, and that's not the way to defeat Trump. It might work on Carson, but he's a likeable man, so Cruz's tactic (even if done by a staffer) doesn't reflect well on him at all.

At the end? Oh, that's very possible. Cruz's and Carson religious and social views are pretty close. So for the 'good' of their agenda and the party I can see Carson endorsing Cruz after Carson drops out.

BUT right NOW, I think Carson will hang around for awhile to piss off Cruz and make sure he doesn't get any of Carson's votes in the next few primaries. Cruz's campaign's dirty trick last night really seems to have PO'ed Carson.

I think there's some residual animosity. Carson wouldn't have said much at all if there wasn't some feeling of wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if Carson ends up endorsing Rubio. Really, at this point there's not a whole lot that would surprise me. Weird campaigns this time around. I also expect that this event has a very short media life. Carson isn't really a contender, (but I'm glad he's running anyway) and I expect if he was pulling down bigger numbers much more would be made of this. At 9%, even if he lost as much as 2% as a result of this misinformation, he's still not in the mix at 11%, or even a little more.

I think if Carson really wanted to piss off Cruz he'd drop out and endorse Rubio.

I think it's very possible that Cruz is very much hoping to pick up Carson's followers if and when he decides to drop out. We'll see...........

Yeah, we want that guy that works with the RINO's and Democrats to stand up for Obama policies in 2016! **** Rubio.

Oh, I think so too. They're of a similar alignment, politically. However, such tactics may not sit well with Carson. As you say, we'll see.

Cruz did not make many friends within the Party.
