Abe Vigoda, sunken-eyed character actor, dead at 94

NEW YORK (AP) -- Character Abe Vigoda, whose leathery, sunken-eyed face made him ideal for playing the over-the-hill detective Phil Fish in the 1970s TV series "Barney Miller" and the doomed Mafia soldier in "The Godfather," died Tuesday at age 94.

Vigoda's daughter, Carol Vigoda Fuchs, told The Associated Press that Vigoda died Tuesday morning in his sleep at Fuchs' home in Woodland Park, New Jersey. The cause of death was old age. "This man was never sick," Fuchs said.

RIP Fish.

I was just watching the God Father Epic on HBO, he looked old even then. I didn't realize he was still alive. RIP.

It's going to be difficult for me to watch the nostalgia critics review of the film good burger, because many of the jokes involved the critic pointing out that Abe Fogoda was too good to appear in such a awful film.

I didn't either until his name came up in a thread a couple of days ago and I looked.

Aw, sadz. I enjoyed him.

" Tell Mike it was only business. I always liked him."

RIP Abe

He was my favorite character on Barney Miller. His facial and physical expressions told WAY more story than his lines ever did.

94 is a good, long life. May he rest in peace.

Fish was a great character on a very good series. I was a huge fan.

Meh, Abe himself had great fun with the fact the press has [mis]reported his death a couple times already.

True. But he was saying they have multiple lists of several people. Just seems kinda wrong. Like hoping people die so that you would win your pool.

Tessio was always the smart one. RIP.

I loved how he played Fish.

He did not have to utter a sound and he would make me laugh.

Yes indeed, loved that show

He didn't even have to say anything. Just tuck that folded newspaper up under his arm and head to the bathroom... and I was LOLing. He just had this really dry delivery that I tend to like in my humor.
