The University of Missouri communications professor caught on video scuffling with a journalist during a November campus demonstration was charged with third-degree assault Monday morning, the Columbia city prosecutor’s office confirmed to FoxNews.com.A summons with a yet-to-be determined court date is set to be mailed to UM assistant professor of communications Melissa Click. If she’s found guilty, her penalty would ultimately be up to a judge, but would likely require paying a fine, a spokesperson from the prosecutor’s office said.
The video, which was quickly posted to YouTube, showed Click confronting videographer Mark Schierbecker during a campus protest on Nov. 9 and apparently trying to block him from shooting video on a public quad. At one point, Schierbecker asks to speak with Click, who promptly tells him to leave.

I bet there are protest on campus against this.

good. if I'm remembering this correctly, the professor was a total bully. free speech/press must go both ways regardless of whether or not you believe in the person's motives. I hope justice is eventually served and she is punished appropriately.

Not sure if charges are right here. She should be fired though.

well it depends. if the student wanted to file charges, then I think charges should be filed. that way the justice system can sort it out. the courts aren't so PC these days that they won't be able to adjudicate it correctly, imo.

I haven't gone back and reviewed this video in full, but from what I can tell, I think the student has perfectly reasonable grounds to feel physically intimidated ("hey I need some muscle over here") just for filming and being in a public space. if that student felt intimidated enough to warrant bringing assault charges then I feel that that is appropriate.

Since when is physical intimidation that does don't involve touching assault? Man the *****fication of America is reaching new heights

Something tells me if this was a conservative professor you'd be calling for the book to be thrown at him.

You're wrong. I do think she should be fired, Also she's about 90 pounds not capable of intimidating a grown man.

of course you can be physically intimidated without someone touching you. if someone threatens someone with violence (i.e. the way the phrase "I need some muscle over here" could reasonably be construed) to the point where a reasonable person wouldn't feel safe exercising his first amendment rights, that should absolutely be considered an illegal act.

you can't just go around threatening people if they say stuff you don't like. that's not pussification, that's a basic principle of the enlightenment era.

she's certainly capable of rounding up or trying to round up a mob that would bring physical harm upon a grown man.

it also looks like she grabs his phone.

No one came to her aid. I've yet to see someone at a bar charged for telling someone else "I'll kick your ass"

eh, I haven't watched the whole video in a long time. I'm not saying for sure one way or the other that she should be convicted of assault. what I'm saying is that a reasonable person could feel threatened in such a situation, and therefore if they feel the need to bring charges, they should do so and let the justice system sort it out. obviously this person felt they had been wronged enough to file charges.

it's apparent we both agree that she acted inappropriately. I'm not 100% certain she acted illegally, but I find behavior like hers to be pretty despicable so if someone feels like they want to press charges then I am totally supportive of that.

If I had a list of what not to say at a bar, this statement would be on it.

Hypothetical hypocrisy is such a powerful argument.
