Federal deficit to soar in 2016 after Ryan-Obama tax deal - Washington Times

The federal budget deficit will soar this year, the Congressional Budget Office reported Tuesday, after President Obama and Congress gave up on austerity late last year, embracing spending hikes and massive new tax cuts that have left the government awash in red ink.
Adding to the problems is a projected rise in interest rates, which will force the government to pay higher costs as it services the trillions of dollars of debt that have already piled up over the last 15 years.
CBO analysts say the deficit will reach $544 billion in fiscal 2016, which is a 24 percent leap over last year’s total. It’s also deeper than what the analysts had projected in August, when they had assured Congress deficits would continue to fall slightly.
Ryan is an asshole.

As long as congress critters enjoy a re-election rate of over 90% nothing much is going to change.

Of course the federal deficit will increase, no one bothered to consider our fiscal position when passing an 'everyone gets what they want' increased spending and tax cuts deal. I would go so far as to say no one from either side of the fence considered our existing deficit, overall Total Debt, or Total Debt to GDP position when "negotiating" for this deal.

All they did was punt to the next 115th Congress another mess to contend with, including a probable acceleration in needing to up the next useless debt ceiling.

Ryan has always been a Supply-Sider. I am sure the despite taxes being at some of the lowest levels of the entire post-war era, Ryan and the other Republicans think that tax cuts will magically lead to all sorts of new revenue.

Here is the reporting on it from when it was passed: House passes $622 billion in tax breaks

You got it!!! We need term limits for both Congress and the Supreme Court. No more career politicians at ANY Fed. level. I would even go so far as to make it illegal for a former elected official to be in contact with their replacement after the replacement's first month in office (there needs to be some transition time). Their staffs go with them as well to avoid the situation where someone assumes a "power behind the throne" role.

I don't think that is such a panacea. For example, here in Kansas we have a governor that is term limited to just 2 terms yet he still pushed for and signed into law what have been fiscally disastrous budgets and tax cuts. Even 1 term is more than enough time for a politician that buys into the supply side nonsense to do a lot of fiscal damage.
