Glenn Frey of the Eagles dead at age 67

January 18, 2016

Detroit native and founding member of the Eagles, Glenn Frey, has passed away at the age of 67. Back in November, news came out Frey faced major surgery after a recurrence of previous intestinal issues. Frey had a portion of his intestine removed in 1990. He was also forced to take a break from the Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over" reunion tour in 1994 because of diverticulitis.

The death of Frey has been confirmed on the Eagles website. A statement says: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016. Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia."

"The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery. Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide."

Frey, who was born in Detroit and grew up in Royal Oak, is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Eagles. He co-wrote and sang many Eagles hit songs, including "Lyin' Eyes," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," and "Take It Easy." Frey also had numerous solo hits with "The Heat is On," You Belong to the City," and "The One You Love."

RIP Glenn

Time passes and you must move on
Half the distance takes you twice as long
So you keep on singing for the sake of the song
After the thrill is gone

Whoa, celebrities are dying like flies all of a sudden. RIP.

I was never a huge fan of the Eagles, but I can appreciate their contributions to rock. Some truly great songs came about thanks to Glen.
67 years old seems way too early. RIP.

The afterlife's music scene is picking up some real good talent.

Sad. With so much musical talent prospering in the 60's and 70's we are going to be in for a ride over the next 20 years or so. Makes you wonder what the eulogy will be for Beiber, NSYNC, or anyone from the boy band era.

20 years together is a long time for a band. With the exception of Frey and Felder, they seemed to always be able to come together for the music. Some people trash it, but I dont of any group that better exemplified west coast rock in the 70s.

I just remembered today that they were Linda Ronstadt old band.

I saw Frey with his band [after the Eagles broke up] at a small civic center in Temple TX. They were the under card for the Motels.

Saw the whole band [with Joe Walsh] at the Texxas Jam, June 1980.

REST in Peace, Mr. Frey You will be missed.

Wow, I remember the old Texas Jams from the 1980's.

I attended a couple myself.

Hotel California was my favorite song to play driving across the desert at night Las Vegas to LA.

Yeah, these guys didn't exactly treat their body like a temple. Hard living catches you eventually.

In the last few weeks, we have lost a crapload of musical icons, and this has got me thinking about my own mortality. But, honestly, the only thing I am thinking of is, when it is my time, will I be able to get good seats, or even better, will I get a chance to participate in a jam that is so good I end up creaming my pants? LOL.

Some of The Eagle's best work was on Ronstadt's album "Heart Like a Wheel". She was the person who really gave the Eagles their big break by bringing them into her band. Most of that album sounds like Linda Ronstadt fronting for The Eagles.

'These guys....' probably applies to more than a few of us.

We were at the first one ('78) in the Cotton Bowl. The two sister we were with got hauled off to the dehydration tents (104 degrees) in the first couple of hours during Van Halen's set. The rest of us just rocked on. ;)

Thank goodness she did.

2016 just keeps getting worse

Van Halen Diver Down ( I think it was the Diver Down tour ) was the first Concert I ever attended. Saw them in the old Coliseum.

Remember the old Houston Coliseum ? Built like a bomb shelter, actually I think it was actually a fallout shelter. It had crazy acoustics.

I just remember asking my brother for his napkin so I could make ear plugs. I was all of 12 or maybe 13 years old.

I suppose.

Marty: "If you could not play rock 'n' roll, what would you do?"

Mick Shrimpton: "As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without rock and roll."

Considering the shape of my hearing these days...the napkins would have been a good idea. We used to sit as close to the stage as possible.
