Three Americans Reportedly Kidnapped in Baghdad - NBC News

The U.S. State Department was working Sunday to locate three Americans in Iraq after a report that they had been kidnapped in Baghdad.

Dubai-based news service Al Arabiya reported that three Americans had been kidnapped by "militias" in the Iraqi capital. The Arab news agency cited their own sources.

U.S, officials said they were looking into it.

"We are aware of reports that American citizens are missing in Iraq," said State Department spokesman John Kirby. "We are working with the full cooperation of the Iraqi authorities to locate and recover the individuals. The safety and security of American citizens overseas is our highest priority."

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.

I'm not surprised.
I mean how many Americans are in Iraq who aren't heavily armed?

There is probably a government ban on weapons for foreigners without approval.

I'm saying outside the Army or the Marine Corps, or some sort of diplomatic function, very few people are spending any amount of time in Iraq.

I go there often for the "Basra Bullet and Mined Water Park".

It's a blast.

ISIS is taking credit.

Is Obama going to fight this war, or not?

Hm. Let me see here. Apparently, according to you, if Americans get kidnapped, we're supposed to go directly to war to get them back Right Now? Dude. Those Americans were warned - HAD to have been warned - that it's really not a good idea to go walking around in Baghdad. What's more, they were apparently kidnapped by militias...so, WHICH militias? Where are they? Are they supported by the government, or opposed? Or do they have nothing to do with the government? Or are they - like so many of the others - just gangs looking for a way to make more money?

But I forget - in Right Wing Wacko World, the first response must always be, "Bombs Away!!!!!!"

ISIS likely has them-you remember-the JV team.
How long until they are a video?

I know that I wouldn't be there if I didn't have at least two weapons.

If you'd listen to the news, they suspect Shiite militias more than ISIS.

And even if it were ISIS, exactly how are we supposed to root out every single cell of them inside a major city? Y'all are so good at saying what the other guy's doing wrong, but I hear ZERO details on how it shoulda been done more effectively.

Obama lost the peace there. He allowed terrorism to flourish. All on his watch.

Who made the agreement with the Iraqi government on when our forces would withdraw? Bush.

Did Obama try to convince them to allow our forces to stay longer? Yes.

What was the reply of the Iraqi government? No. Get out of our country.

So...are you then of the opinion that Obama should have violated the agreement that Bush made with the Iraqi government and instead forced them to allow our forces to remain therein?

Who was the CiC who withdrew from Iraq, despite his generals warning him about the dangers?

Obama.

Every finger you point is an admission of the ineptitude of Obama.

You're dodging the question. AGAIN: "So...are you then of the opinion that Obama should have violated the agreement that Bush made with the Iraqi government and instead forced them to allow our forces to remain therein?"

He's the freaking POTUS. He was fighting a war. Final decisions rest with him.

Blaming his failures on an agreement is in fact highlighting his failure.

Uh-uh. Even the president can't go forcing other nations to keep our troops there when they don't want our troops there. This is called "invasion" - or "war" since we were already there. Maybe you don't see a problem with that...but a heck of a lot of American families who had to bury their kids did.

But I get it - your only solution to everything is more war.

Unless you're heavily armed and protected, you have to be an IDIOT to have American citizenship and be anywhere near Iraq or Syria right now. Whatever perceived benefits you may have towards being there don't come close to justifying the risks involved. I'm personally not a fan of having my head sawed off with a knife.

I'm not surprised.

Are there still mercenaries- oops, security contractors, in Iraq?
