In this case, the father wouldn't have been sacrificing himself for his child, he would have died a meaningless death. leaving his daughter to not only have to deal with being raped, but with the death of her father. He made one of the most difficult decisions any parent could ever face and he made the right choice. There wasn't anything he could have done to stop the rape, so he had to make the unimaginably horrific choice to allow one tragedy in order to protect his daughter from an even greater one. We all want to protect those we love, but dying a meaningless death isn't going to do that. My prayer is that the daughter understands the horror her father felt in making that choice.

Personally, I see this as one of those impossible moral dilemmas. It's more a kind of rorschach test than anything. Leaving my wife/daughter/niece/etc. alone to be brutalized by a gang is unthinkable, but so is staying to help knowing I wouldn't be worth a warm bucket of spit in the face of five armed men.

Gee, I must be psychic. I made a wild guess that the perps all look like Obama's son. And whaddaya know. Especially since none of the stories mentioned their description. I wonder if Obama will cry.

Right-wingers aren't even people.

I don't need to run for help...I am the help.

no need to run to look for men with guns when I have one on my person in perfect working order.

1.)In this case, the father wouldn't have been sacrificing himself for his child, he would have died a meaningless death. leaving his daughter to not only have to deal with being raped, but with the death of her father.

6.) My prayer is that the daughter understands the horror her father felt in making that choice.

1.) that is a complete guess and IMO a very unlikely one since i doubt they stick around to rape her after one of more gun shots.
2.) i could never agree its the "right" decision . . i could possible agree there is not right decision, or staying is the right one but never leaving.
3.) again you are speaking like you are stating a fact and you are not . . you simply do not know (like all of us) and him staying could of just as easily stopped the rape.
4.) what tragedy did he prevent, which is the lesser and greater one and according to who do you base those opinion on?
5.) again, you ASSUME it would be meaningless, it MIGHT be but you are basing that off of only your opinions
6.) i hope so too but i cant imagine he ever gets over it.

Sorry to say but if the dad hadn't been drinking in the park with his underage daughter, he might have been more coherent to do something better. No way does this excuse the horrific act or the criminal garbage that did the attack but it also doesn't excuse the dad's poor judgments that put her into the situation. It's unclear whether or not dad and daughter were drinking but reports show witnesses say the dad was drunk and police reports show the daughter was drunk.

Those sources also say the father and daughter were drinking beer in an obscured spot on the playground, in an effort to hide from police.

The young woman, law enforcement sources said, was drunk and combative, and investigators could not interview her the night of the attack. She bit one police officer and refused to be transported to the hospital, the sources told CNN.

Your chances of finding help isn't all that great really. Most people won't do jack and cops are almost never around when you need them.

while i agree and im in the same category (i carry) my question wasnt based on a made up scenario, its based on THIS story.

Would you leave them with four or five armed white teenagers?

I was thinking the same thing, heck why include teenagers even . . .it could be absolutely nothign but it did seem weird to include race. leave my daughter with any armed people that want to do her harm

Nice Dad, leaving his daughter to be raped by savages. I'd say "Kick Dad in the balls", but it's apparent he doesn't have any.

I'd fight these savage freaks. Shoot me...stab me...whatever. I wouldn't back down like a coward with the life of my kid hanging in the balance.

1.) i personally dont see any smarts in it.
2.) IMO his chance is smaller than if he stays
3.) this i also doubt, i doubt because while id be dead i doubt the stick around after a gun shot or two and rape her. But like i said in the other thread it is possible that i get killed, we both get killed, they subdue me and make me watch or all of the above but its a risk i take. I definitely know i would be incapable of leaving her.
4.) this is also true . . but i can really come up with a scenario that i leave, it would have to be VERY specific and not based on this story.

Yeah I considered that angle - they plug me and take off because the noise attracts attention. In that case they may shoot her as well - she's a witness afterall - or they may just take her along and rape her somewhere else. You just don't know.

If you're going to speculate then try this on for size: Dad steps in between the kids and his daughter and tells her to run. She gets away and maybe he gets shot and maybe the little ****s decide that it's a better idea to go mess with someone else. In a situation like that the one way to guarantee a bad outcome is to run away. If you choose to interfere or resist you at least have a chance at a positive outcome.

if you can't provide help yourself... the very best thing to do is bail out and go get some help from people who can counter the threat.

you'll probably be causing 2 deaths if you hang around without means to do anything... yours and your loved one.

You are right, they very well might stick around and shoot anybody and everybody they see or kidnap her . . . .
Maybe in the situation i do what he does, i dont know but it seems impossible to me that i would ever leave . . theres many many scenarios that could play out . . i pick the ones with me in them and me actually doing something, whether i die or not.

Exactly. There's no good solution. If you leave, you know you're leaving your teenage daughter in a very dangerous situation, but at least you can maybe find help. Getting shot in the head does not do a lot to help your daughter and would be no less traumatic to her.

I have no idea what I would do in that situation. Hopefully, I never have to find out.

It's the same for me with the wife. I'd rather die defending her than live with the fact that she was hurt. Of course, I might end up dead and she gets raped anyway. But...at least I won't know about it.

If the guys got a gun and you're unarmed, or even armed but without the weapon drawn, your chances are the next best thing to zero. The end result of this is that the lights go out for you with you knowing that you tried to defend her and you don't get to see that she was raped or murdered anyway. It's in all probability a futile gesture.

Yeah. I read that the man begged, begged, people at a nearby store to call the cops, but they refused. Only afterward did he manage to contact the cops, who in turn took long enough to arrive that the girl was raped by every rapist.

I personally would shoot the rapist openly wielding the gun from range and move in quickly, on the assumption that the others would disperse and/or be unarmed.

Being raped isn't as bad being raped lying next to your father's dead body. Both are horrific, but one is worse.

Yes, that is technically the logical solution. Psychologically it's a horrific scenario.

Really? Huh. Might be an interesting spin off poll.

Can I have that quote for my sig?

Its also impossible for me to hope on board the "its just rape" train it could have been worse . . .
to some rape is worse and among the million scenarios that could of happened it could of been rape and then they kill her or maybe she now has aids? just saying . . . i choose the scenario with me in it and actually doing something . . .that something maybe dying but then so be it, i die a hero and protecting (or trying to protect) my daughter

that's probably a popular emotional sentiment... but it's dumb.

a loved one raped is much better than both of you dead...though you don't know beforehand if rape is all they have in mind.

make the choice a far easier one by carrying concealed and train with your weapon.... 5 dead bad guys is always better than 1 or 2 innocents victimized.

Reports say both father and daughter were drunk.

The father, of course, says he begged and begged. The bodega guy says the guy was drunk and incoherent.

If someone was drunk and couldn't help their daughter, I'm sure their version would always be "I begged and begged"

Of course, it's all he said/he said but nobody likes to admit they were wrong and a girl got raped in the end with no help.
