How mad is America at the moment? Citizens are apparently mad enough to warrant “The American Rage Quiz,” a public survey conducted by Esquire Magazine and NBC News to gauge the outrage among Americans as they confront politics, media and cultural complications.
“We the people are pissed. The body politic is burning up. And the anger that courses through our headlines and news feeds - about injustice and inequality, about marginalization and disenfranchisement, about what they are doing to us—shows no sign of abating.” the Esquire editors declare.

Seventy-three percent of whites say they get angry at least once a day, as compared with 56 percent of blacks and 66 percent of Hispanics,” the survey advises. “Seventy-seven percent of Republicans get angry at least once a day, as compared with 67 percent of Democrats. The least angry household-income brackets: the very rich ($150,000-plus) and the very poor ($15,000 and less). The most angry: the middle of the middle class ($50,000 to $74,999),” the pollsters note in their findings.
Culture watchers point out that outrage and indignation has become a contemporary marketing device. The clever news media often maneuvers the public into outrage and anger as a way to rivet both their interest and patronage - and up the audience numbers, whether measured by viewers, listeners or online clicks.

Republicans are angry? Who knew?

I'm a little bit left of center and I get ticked off (But not angry.) when people walk on the left-hand side of the sidewalk instead of on the right.

Republicans are angry? Who knew?

You are missing the big picture here. This is good news.

Why would it be good news?

Motivation to vote. If it were a Republican like Bush in office the numbers in that poll would probably be reversed for each party.

Republicans are angry? Who knew?

So eight out of ten Republicans get angry on a daily basis, as compared to seven out of ten Democrats... Yeah, those crazy right-wingers sure are unique in their nigh-immeasurable rage.

I read the quote in the OP and immediately ignored everything besides this. I find this interesting, and relatively accurate. Someones always deliberately trying to piss you off now a days, a lot of the time its so they can use your anger to steer you into buying/voting for/protesting/supporting/did-I-miss-anything-? something. It makes it hard to just be happy or content.

...and Democrats are screaming nutcases that want to BAN everything they disagree with....(for the children...of course)

Sounds like a good balance to me.

BadDog....wait until November and it WILL be reversed...to the extreme.

Once they hear the words " President-Elect Trump " on an MSNBC newscast their faces will melt.

Republicans are angry? Who knew?

They need their daily dose of irrational fear and anger, its been supplied to them by talk radio for so long. Poor rubes have no idea how easily they are exploited.

From a part of what you quoted: "The clever news media often maneuvers the public into outrage and anger as a way to rivet both their interest and patronage - and up the audience numbers, whether measured by viewers, listeners or online clicks."

Wouldn't that be considered irresponsible journalism? Or wait...do we even HAVE such a thing as journalism anymore?

As for the rest. Just goes to show that I'm definitely NOT a republican or democrat. The last time I raged at anything was when I found out both of my nieces has been molested. Beyond that the last time I even got angry was about 7 years ago when one of those same nieces got rip roaring drunk at age 15.

Shagg...so far, these are the wisest words I have read on here this new year.

Madison Avenue steering pent up anger / rage to sell products. Be those products, a politician, a vote, or a 32 oz soft drink.

The ad philosophy seems to be...make em' mad, then sell em' something to make em' happy again. Until the next 30 second spot.

beefheart...it has been going on long before talk radio. Once at a used book store in Virginia, I found a hardback copy of the right-wing magazine, National Review...FIRST edition ever. It was written in the early 50's, and the word "pinko" must have been used 100 times or more, and the "Reds" were hiding out in your kitchen cupboard. If not yours, then certainly your neighbor's.

...and if your milk went sour, then certainly some Commie agent put a chemical agent in it to make it so.

VIGILANCE.....they are everywhere.

True...the rabble are always easy to whip up with irrational anger.

Again, Democrats are RIGHT UP THERE WITH THEM. It's a one in ten difference. But of course, we're only going to focus on Republicans, because otherwise, we'd have to pull our heads out of our asses.

The bias-confirmation is strong with a LOT of people, it seems.

What a stupid poll. I get angry more than once a day. I get angry when the UPS truck makes my dogs bark when I'm on a conference call. I get angry when I read about a kitten being used as bait for fighting dogs. I get angry when I realize I bought the wrong butter. I get angry when my kids forget to set aside their expensive sweaters and I put them in the wash and they get ruined. I get angry when the political candidates call my phone morning noon and night. I get angry when the Giants can't beat the Eagles. I get angry when the Rangers lose 3 in a row. I get angry when they won't let me turn left out of a side street. And all of this has zero to do with my economic status, level of education, or who I vote for. It's called being a normal adult.

Yup...ANY rabble, from ANY side can be whipped to a frenzy with the right skilled manipulator....with one caveat. The hate had to be there smoldering first. It just makes it easier to fan it into a flame.

The present Democratic "party of inclusion" has a huge list of those they do NOT want to include, and are unwelcome in their ranks.

My family was always southern conservative Democrats, but now the Democratic party has moved so far to the left, it is unrecognizable from what I remember. Now I am unwelcome because I enjoy plinking tin cans with my semiautomatic .22 caliber rifle my father bought me when I was 15, and refuse to give it up......"for the children".

PS...the joke is on them. I WILL be giving it up TO the children. My granddaughter when she is 15.

Now, to them, I am a Nazi terrorist redneck. Despite the fact I do not hunt, contribute to the World Wildlife Fund, have adopted an African elephant and an Emerald Hummingbird, and have 2 college degrees.

To the present Dems, I am just an uneducated redneck that wants to kill every animal alive.

So much for the party of "inclusion".

I never could stand Republicans, but see no middle ground anymore.

Nope, the middle ground is gone, that ground is scorched and salted.

Shame, because its all short attention span bumpersticker mentality now.

An overwhelming majority of dims are angry, yet you feel the need to point out repubs. Partisan hackery much?

Uhh, did you miss the part about an overwhelming majority of Dims being angry?

According to the OP GOPers are 10 percent ahead of Democrats when it comes to being angry every day. That is a significant difference.

My guess is that all of that anger has to raise some people's blood pressure.

Repugnantcons are more so. Truth hurts.
