14-year-old boy shot by homeowner after ringing doorbell prank

irresponsible use of a fireman includes giving one to a paranoid and cranky old man. I mean who could've ever seen this coming in oklahoma /s

now a kid is dead because of that and the gun nuts care more that every paranoid and cranky old man out there is in a similar position to shoot in the back more kids who are no threat to them

who gave it to this guy? the kid didn't die in this case did he

seems like you are making facts up to further your anti gun agenda

Reckless endangerment is still reckless endangerment even in places with the castle doctrine.

But when the facts are sorted, will that be the case?

Do you know something we haven't read yet?

Maybe you should tell the police what you know!

I wasn't serious about banning guns, but parents should make sure their kids are not running around disturbing people and playing pranks- especially at night. There are nutcases who could do even worse..

Of course, young kids running around playing pranks is the bigger issue here...

He was within his right if can can reasonably show he feared harm. If the kids tried to break in the door, maybe, ringing the DB, I think not.

But that subjective and highly variable "he feared harm" is also exactly why the courts need to throw out these "stand your ground" laws that just cater to cowardice. I mean wtf is the doorbell there for if not to be used? Guess we should pass a law against doorbells or being a teenager next

This looks for all the world to be textbook murder, but these "wild west" states have created a twisted standard that's impossible to measure after the fact and relies on the killer's claim to being afraid at the time of the murder

he wasn't killed only by coincidence, and it's completely legal for a crazed old man to purchase a deadly weapon, that is the problem

you also have lots of stupid laws like a gun registry and no constitutional rights
Gun registry was abolished by the Federal Govt.
We do have Constitutional rights. What rights are you referring to? 2 A?

can you own a AR 15 rifle up there easily?

Can you use an ar - 15 to hunt.

Of course ****ing not! We're not stupid! We see Americans arming themselves against each other, killing each other, why in the **** would any sane nation become the second country in the world with a stupid "right to bear arms".

Seriously, why would any nation copy this kind of horse****? FFS, you assume other people actually WANT that kind of life?

Back about 40 years ago or so we had the neighbor whose property backed up to ours come out with a shotgun when we were doing the same thing. He was a crotchety old fart.

This guy, however, seems to have also pulled the trigger so my guess is that there's going to be a little vacation at the Graybar Hotel in his future.

I have heard of people loading their own shotgun shell with rock salt.

leave it to gun nuts to blame anyone but the shooter for a kid getting shot in the back

No training, no problem, until things like this occur.

Yeah and there is nothing brave about going to the grocery store, so ****ing what.

gun proliferation is largely due to the perception they are badass weapons and there's nothing deadly about a grocery bag. What a horrible analogy

You lack imagination if you can't think of a scenario that he might feel fear or harm.

These boys came back a second time to pull the stunt, and after midnight. I think the time I read was around 1:30 AM. It's possible they were making noise on the porch and never rang the doorbell before the shots rang out. Who knows what else may have transpired. Maybe they were stealing things, coming back after maybe they though no one was home.

The fact is, we don't know all the facts.

Shooting in the back is for a coward with a gun.

That too, is what is reported. Is it a fact, or journalistic art?

What does the hospital records say?

Link please...

Factual evidence, else how do you know someone isn't lying?

I have heard of people loading their own shotgun shell with rock salt.

LOL...

So have I!

Common practice to harm without killing.

And the pain!

That cuts both ways

Imagination is exactly what you need if you want to justify the old man's actions.

I heard only good to about 50 60 feet or so. Under that pains like hell.

you sort of relegate your posts to the "never to be taken seriously on gun topics" by asking whether you can use an AR 15 to hunt

OF COURSE YOU CAN-its an ideal rifle for some hunting situations but assuming that is the only reason to own a gun is like asking if the only reason to own a knife is to cut cardboard

we white americans don't have any higher rates of gun violence than our white canadian neighbors

I heard only good to about 50 60 feet or so. Under that pains like hell.

Yep.

Not massive enough to go very deep in the body, and disperses in short order. Other than the pain, real damage can only be done at near point blank range, or if hit in the eye.

Just for long guns correct? handguns are still registered are they not?
