I hate Chicago after living there 29 years. The government in that city is the most corrupt in the world. Right now the stinking cps are laughing at the murders victims. The cops have executed thousands in the past 100 years.

First of all, I should have read the whole thread before commenting because soho gator is addressing the point, which is simply that the employer (government in this case) can dictate whether or not a cop carries a firearm on the job. I think you agree. An employee has no "right" to be armed on duty. Off duty they have the same 'right' to carry a firearm as the rest of us.

I don't actually favor disarming cops, but this cop should be permanently disarmed on duty and maybe off unless there is something to this shooting we don't know.

Agreed, this particular cop should be unarmed and at a desk but to disarm all cops, well who is going to stay on the job then? I wouldn't. That makes less sense than making it harder for private citizens to have fire arms.

I think Rahm is toast in 2016. The city is being torn apart, and if the locals in poverty stricken neighborhoods lose what faith they have left in the police force, i believe it will require military support.

Many of these neighborhoods, e.g. Englewood and Austin, are already semi-functioning war zones as a result of U.S. drug policy and prohibition.

I agree. Emanuel's best hope is for Clinton to get elected and afterwards, give him a job in her administration or move back to DC and get rich as a lobbyist or consultant as the democrat Karl Rove. It really isn't his fault. Its circumstances he inherited.

Richard Daley messed things up the most. He had the brilliant idea of bulldozing the high crime public housing projects I guess thinking it would eradicate the criminal element that resided there. Instead, the gangs moved out into nearly every square inch of the city where before they were concentrated in the projects. Relatively safe neighborhoods became gang territory.

Rahm is a PoS and has been long before he got the Mayoral job. I'd like to see him lose and lose badly. He deserves nothing better.

Dear god, does Chicago PD even have a training program?? It's like they're handed a uniform, a badge and a weapon and told to "get out there and shoot bad guys" without being educated on who, exactly, the bad guys are.

I guess they are realizing they voted for a poo sammich when they voted Rahm in. I don't think it will get fixed. Rahm is part of Obama's support group. He doesn't have a clue about how to do be a mayor. He was destined to screw up. His first priority is covering his own ass. Chicago will do what Chicago does, elect corrupt politicians.

As for the shooting, as usual, not enough information is out to make a judgment.

Usually this is where the DOJ steps in. Lynch works for Obama who is a very close friend of Rahm. Rahm's brother was the architect of Obama Care. Rahm and Obama are pretty tight. It would be interesting to see if Lynch steps in and investigates a city that Rahm is mayor of.

I like the sentiments, and this might work in London, but it's not going to fly in Chicago!
To put an unarmed cop out on the streets would IMO be exposing him to undue risk.

Unfortunately, we live in an extremely violent fire-arm laden society! And our big-city coppers deal with the worst & most violent.

I am saying drug prohibition has it's roots in the Republican party. From Hoover's Federal Bureau of Narcotics to Nixon's War on Drugs, to Reagan's Anti-Drug Abuse Acts; all of them set the stage for the current militarization of drug traffickers. Hell, Reagan's intelligence guys were linked with trafficking cocaine into the U.S., to be sold in the most impoverished areas in the country.

That is a real stretch with some side stepping. The CIA was bringing heroin into the country during Johnson's era. It comes down to decisions made by a person. I can do it or I can not do it. I noticed you mentioned all Republican presidents over a long span and avoided mentioning Kennedy, Johnson, Carter and Clinton.
