I think he's a great congressman because since he's held office there the wolverines keep getting their asses handed to them by the buckeyes.

they crap all over anyone(citizens, politicians, et al) who are religious, call them stupid hicks. call them dangerous to the country. which is fine. if it some how makes them feel superior, go for it. but then ANOTHER religious group comes along(even more zealous than the christians), and the liberals CODDLE and DEFEND them to their last breathes. and if you try to explain to them why they are being two-faced hypocritical idiots they stare off into the liberal ether, unmoved.

Have you links to where there was a massive public backlash, due a Judge swearing their oath on a Bible?

In fact, the whole idea of "swearing in" is just a ceremonial notion...that probably should be done away with except as ceremony.

A person entering a public office should sign a statement attesting that he/she understands the laws that apply to the office being undertaking...and acknowledging that there are legal penalties for abuse of the office or for breaking laws.
 
I don't see the problem with this individual being sworn in using the koran, or in people complaining about it.
 
All judges should be sworn in on a copy of Green Eggs and Ham.

Minnesota, people - not Michigan. You can't blame Congressman Ellison for the failures of the Wolverines, he's a Gopher fan.

People can swear on any religious book or none at all, their choice, so long as all have equal choice there is no real issue unless one is a Bigot themselves.

This brings up an interesting thought: Are Jews swearing-in using the Tanakh? I never thought about that.

But I don't see that big a deal with this - She's swearing her allegiance to the state and her office, with *her* God as witness.

No biggie, to me.

I've yet to see a liberal attack a Christian for swearing on the Bible.

I don't care what people swear on, but I do care about honesty and it would be dishonest for a Muslim to swear on a Bible just to appease some hicks in this country who hate brown people.
