<MOSCOW (AP) -- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Tuesday accepted Russia's long-standing demand that President Bashar Assad's future be determined by his own people, as Washington and Moscow edged toward putting aside years of disagreement over how to end Syria's civil war.>

<"No one should be forced to choose between a dictator and being plagued by terrorists," Kerry said. However, he described the Syrian opposition's demand that Assad must leave as soon as peace talks begin as a "nonstarting position, obviously.">

<Appearing beside Kerry, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov hailed what he described as a "big negotiating day," saying the sides advanced efforts to define what a Syrian transition process might look like.>

This was always to be. It was never negotiable for Russia. The US told Russia for four years that Assad was going to go. It wasn't until Putin jumped in Syria with both feet that Kerry was forced to say uncle.

We need to remove Assad at all costs because it worked so well in Libya. /sarcasmoff

Dont get too excited this is only politics. The only thing that changed is not actually saying that Assad must go. I suppose that makes you and Putin feel better. But the policy hasnt changed really.

No not at all. There's no difference in a policy that Assad must go, and a policy that he can stay. Never mind that the US isn't even the arbiter of who stays and who goes, even so our history of coups and regime changes.

What that stupid, sniveling, medal throwing, Frank Burns/purple-heart, liberal twit is not smart enough to understand, is that the Obama has surrendered all US influence in the ME to Russia and their close ally Iran. What a stupid Obama-esque MFer.

It was Bush that delivered Iraq to Iran. ;)

NOPE, Bush had a US controlling force in Iraq. FACT!!! The CIA has communiques from AQ that Iraq was a lost cause. THEN It was those incompetent liberal dumbasses Obama and Clinton that could not negotiate Status of Forces Agreement (lets f*ing be honest they didn't want one and wanted to remove all US forces) and Obama pulled out all forces that created the vacuum to be filled by ISIS and ultimately the instability that allowed Russia and Iran to rule.

What the hell was he doing getting shot at in Vietnam. He shoulda done like his goombah GWBush and signed papers saying he would not serve in Vietnam. It sounds like the USA might be willing to settle for a democratic election in Syria, but I doubt it because history proves we promote Dictatorships.

WTF does that have to do about leaving the US force for security? How long was the US in Japan and Germany to sustain and support those governments?

God damn Gruber was right.

This will change under Hillary Clinton and certain neocon Republicans who advocate a no fly zone in Syria. Chris Christie just said in the debate he would accept World War 3.

That badass did get some egg-shell in his eye.

Iran is Shia, Bush installed a Shia government in Iraq. Do the math young man.

The Russian-led counterterrorism operation in Syria is so successful that it is “unnerving” Washington, CCTV reported. As a result, last week US leadership decided to act so as to prevent Iraq from fostering ties with Moscow.

The Chinese media outlet believes that the operation to free hostages in Northern Iraq followed this new logic. Last Thursday, US and Kurdish forces managed to free 70 people from a prison located to the west of Kirkuk. The operation saw the United States lose its first soldier in combat since Obama launched the campaign to degrade and ultimately destroy Islamic State.

However, Carter stated that similar missions, which redefine assistance if not blur the line between combat and training, could be conducted in the future.

The operation took place on the same day as Vladimir Putin’s approval rating hit a new high reaching 89.9 percent. The Russian leader is increasingly popular at home due to his efforts to help solve the Syrian crisis, the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) explained.

The Russian-led counter-Syrian Rebel operation in Syria......

Fixed that for you.

ETA - Do the math yet?

Iran is Shia, Bush installed a Shia government in Iraq. Do the math young man.

To be intellectually honest (as I always am), Bush did make a big mistake by not demanding a long Term Sec/Forces Agreement in Iraq when that government was forming and before he left office. You see, Bush had character and integrity, he didn't want to impose his Iraq Policy on the soon to be succeeding US Administration and he had faith that that Administration would consider the US's interests first and not totally F*-the-goat the way Obama did. But we have all learned not to trust that worthless POS Obama haven't we?!

Ok fine. Still, he installed a Shia government, to Iran's great delight. Btw, both British and US intelligence agencies have reported that the invasion and occupation of Iraq resulted in increased terror and a world less safe. ;)

Shia is the MAJORITY of Iraq! WTF else could he do after the election? BUT that is exactly why a 25,000+/- US security should have been left in place, rather that yanked by Obama.

BWTF did you think was going to happen when Obama's TOP adviser is a Shia/Iranian???. Snap out of it, what if someone stepped in and made the Amish the kings of the US?

The best hope for peace in the ME is a butt-load of brutal and sadistic dictators that control their populations and at the same time are afraid the US will put a cruise-missile up their ass if they don't toe the line. Obama's Egypt, Syria, Libya??

That's why Ted Cruz finally agrees with me that Hussein, Mubarak, and Gaddafi should have been left in place and we should stop our attempts to remove Assad.
