Muslim nations form coalition to fight terror, call Islamic extremism 'disease'

Lol that's rich coming from the Wahhabist death cult of Saudi Arabia and the worlds number one proliferator and financier of Islamic Extremism. Laughable.

I hope that the fall in oil prices will make Saudi Arabia less powerful making it more difficult for this country to support terror in the future.

Here's the list of nations:

In addition to Saudi Arabia, the coalition will include Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Turkey, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, Djibouti, Senegal, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Gabon, Guinea, the Palestinians, Comoros, Qatar, Cote d'Ivoire, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Maldives, Mali, Malaysia, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Yemen.

When I see pictures/video of Saudi warplanes taking out IS targets in Syria or Iraq alongside US and British war planes I'll be much more convinced.

I hope this isn't just a "think tank" type coalition.

For once I actually agree with you! We need to cut all ties with Saudi Arabia.

On one hand, this needs to happen and is long overdue I would agree. At some point US foreign policy is going to have to remove the training wheels and these nations must learn to clean up their own backyards.

The flip side here is whom we are talking about. A fair number of these 34 nations forming this coalition are nothing more than ideological dictatorships themselves, which off and on has presented problems for the US's hypocritical and confusing foreign policy to date.

The question, which the article points out, is whom from this new coalition is going to be willing to engage ISIS in both Syria and Iraq. More importantly, what happens assuming they are all successful in squashing ISIS. Does al-Assad stay in power under Russia's protection? Does Turkey continue to use the fight against ISIS as a means to engage the Kurds in Iraq? Does the Iraqi government ever become a nation that can control all of it's territory? And speak of Iraq nor Iran nor Syria are on the list, but Turkey is.

If ISIS is really starting to form and engage in more operations in these other nations then it makes sense for those governments to form coalition, but I am concerned the coalition is just for show where the real reliance on military usage will be on continued western interventionism.

I also agree with others, we would be far better off if we reduced (if not completely eliminated) our alliances with Saudi Arabia. They have been a prime example as to why our foreign policy has been such a sick joke. Made only into a worse joke at the UN, with the Saudis ambitions for the Human Rights Council. Which is another organization that has gone off the deep end looking for even new lows to find.

Yes, ISIS is just not the right type of terrorism and should be removed. Wahhabism on the other hand is a far better ordeal and thus should be re-installed instead of ISIS there.

It's a step in the right direction and these countries should be applauded for taking this on. It may run into some glitches along the way - but this is what the West has been asking for -- for Muslims to step up and take the terrorists to task.

there will be no applause until we see boots on the ground or planes in the air bombing ISIS targets.
which technically is against their religion. ISIS is engaged in a jihad and according to the Koran etc ... these countries are not supposed to oppose them, but
support them.

so far this is nothing more than a hand wave gesture when they get serious then they will have something to talk about.

I'll be impressed only if and when kinetic actions begin. What terrorist organizations besides ISIS will be engaged?

What a motley coalition. I believe slavery is still openly practiced (legal?) in Mauritania.

They have to do a PR stunt like this once in a while, gives the state department something to talk about when someone brings up Saudi funding.

I am not too shy to admit I've never even heard of a few of those "nations".
