Bowe Bergdahl to Face General Court Martial [W:318]

When the generals at JAG send someone to a general court martial they are normally doing it for the sake of the highest penalty.

In another political environment I might agree with you but the military doesn't want that kind of press today. He'll get a DD and probably not much time.

Read the first two -- lying to investigators, which is a crime. Not the public.

The last one is a nice throw-in, but to claim that's "why he had to resign" is a tad disingenuous. If that was the criteria, every president would have had to resign.

Personally, I find such a claim to be incredibly disrespectful to those Americans who were captured and held while actually serving their fellow men instead of themselves and you should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking along those lines but I doubt that you will be and I don't have to walk in your shoes so God Bless you and have a lovely afternoon.

Prison time -- at least 20 years.

Execution -- odds are 50% in my opinion.

All Americans can appeal to the SCOTUS.

I forgot the intermediate appeals courts. I believe the US Court Of Appeals is between the SCOTUS and the commanding general.

INAL but my understanding is that every General Court Martial resulting in sentencing is automatically appealed and sentences can be reduced (but not increased) by the convening authority.
 
The best thing we can take away from this is that we should never have been in the middle east militarily in the first place. Ever.

The media uses "terror" 1,000,000 X per day to scare the public so they feel afraid compared to how small the situation actually is, and then call for more military action (spending for contractors and government) to make us feel safe. This will be an endless cycle until people stop feeding this kind of thing.

ignored that a panel of psychiatrists determined that bergdahl was mentally incompetent at the time he departed the compound
we learn that bergdahl intended to play sgt rock
then endured the savagery of the taliban for years
and most believe this mentally unstable fellow needs to be further punished?

And, to the American people - look at Article 8 in the first link I gave you. Obama sent out his people with marching orders to lie to the American people a number of times, and he broke the law regarding Congress' powers in this particular instance as I showed you in the other link I gave you.

Actually, that's one part of nine in Article 1 of the Articles of Impeachment that the House Judiciary Committee approved against Nixon. Yet your claim is that Nixon was forced to resign for "lying to the American people," conveniently ignoring the other eight sections of Article 1 that have to do with actual crimes.

But please, keep beating the impeachment drum.

B) He was held by Taliban-Haqqani as a US army soldier. That makes him a PoW.

He was not a POW he was a deserter and now he will be tried for his crimes and hopefully executed for his crime.
 
Feel incredibly sad for this young man. Hopefully he walks away from this farce as a free person.

He is a deserter and treasonous scum and he will be tried and hopefully executed.

Is that something he wrote before deserting or something he was forced to write while in captivity?
 
Urban legend. No servicemen were killed due to a search for bergdhal.

And in the cold light of day that purported statement is very near the mark. His unit was full of pretty ****ty dysfunctional assholes.
