If an 18 year old is not mature enough to make a decision about whether or not they want to smoke cigarettes, how can that same 18 year old be mature enough to decide to join the military? This is asinine.

Cleveland City Council approved a sweeping change Monday night. They voted in favor of raising the minimum age to 21 of those who can buy tobacco products and e-cigarettes in Cleveland. It passed 13 to 3. The legislation bans stores from selling cigarettes, tobacco and e-cigarettes to those under 21 in the City of Cleveland. The first offense would be a fourth-degree misdemeanor, which could result in 30 days in jail or a $250 fine. Additional offenses would be second-degree misdemeanors and that could potentially mean 90 days in jail.

Stupid. You can vote at 18. You can serve in the military at 18. You can sign a contract at 18. But you can't buy a pack of smokes or an eCig? Ridiculous.

It will be an inconvenience for 18 year olds to travel to the suburbs for cigarettes.

Why the state insists on not only maintaining these age restriction laws but insists on passing more of them only shows how stupid and inept they are.

Wow!

And jail-time possible for first offense!

Amazing!

Imagine a returning vet sitting in a lock-up:

Jailbird: "What are you in here for, pal"?

Vet: "Smoking"!

And worse yet, for that vet: Forget ever having a career in law enforcement son, because you smoked cigarettes while on leave!

It's the criminalizing of America.

You really don't know?

Here's reality. Politicians make blanket decisions because they know the consequences of those decisions will not affect them personally. So, why is it okay for an 18 year old kid to go off to war and fight but not buy cigarettes or beer? Because politicians kids are not affected by that decision.

Why is it okay to bring potentially dangerous refugees into this nation, some of whom we know will eventually act out violently and kill Americans? Because politicians know that it won't be them or their family that pays the price in blood for that decision. It will be everyday working class Americans at some office Christmas party.

Why is it okay to drive your electric bill sky high in the name of "clean energy"? Because politicians can easily afford a big hike in their electric bill, if they are even paying one. Most are not. Instead it is the rank and file American citizen who pays the price for their agenda.

Why is it okay to raise the issue of banning guns every time some wack job shoots up some public place? Because politicians know that they will never be without their guns and their armed guards and their gated communities. It is the rank and file American citizen that will pay the price when the only people left with guns in the your community are the criminals.

This story over cigarettes is in Cleveland. Cleveland is a liberal city and if there is one thing you have to know about liberal politicians it is that they see the American citizen as beneath them. They consider you just some dumb troglodyte who is too stupid to make your own decisions and thus they feel they must make all your decisions for you because they are out of control power mongers.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

I figured if I read long enough I'd find that you were only talking about liberal politicians, as if they alone are responsible for everything you pointed to.

Nanny state insanity.

I wonder how many of these council members claim to support "freedom of choice?" Because this is an area where the concept is actually relevant, and they clearly don't.
