But at least five other officers on the scene that night corroborated a version of events similar to the one Officer Van Dyke, now charged with murder in the shooting, gave his supervisors: that Mr. McDonald was aggressively swinging his knife and was moving toward the police, giving Officer Van Dyke no choice but to start shooting.

Officer Van Dyke’s partner that night told supervisors that he believed Mr. McDonald was attacking and trying to kill the police officers with the folding knife before the shots were fired, according to original police reports on the 2014 case, which were released late Friday by the city. Another officer reported that Mr. McDonald had raised his right arm — which held the knife — toward Officer Van Dyke “as if attacking,” the reports say. And another officer said that Mr. McDonald drew closer and closer to the officers and continued to wave his knife. At least two of the officers said Mr. McDonald seemed to try to get up from the ground after he was shot, knife still in hand.
Appears the thin blue line closed up and 5 Officers lied for their fellow officer.
Thoughts are?
Was the case was placed on long slow investigation due to the upcoming Mayoral election?
The Police Chief fired? Why so long?
A sacrificial lamb for Mayor Rahm Emanuel?
The Prosecutor took forever? Why? Approx. 14 months, video released, Officer charged.
The video was only released after the City was ordered to produce it. Reason for the delay was " ongoing State and Federal probes". Really
Case was settled for 5 million after Emanuel was reelected.
If the Officer are guilty, what should the repercussions be?

What are the odds? I have been told 99% of cops are good and it is the remaining 1% that makes them look bad. Now we have 5 of those 1-per centers all in one spot at the same time? Talk about a coincidence.

Depends what you call "bad." Only one cop pulled the trigger. The rest didn't want to ruin their careers by being rats. Change the culture and we can change the behavior.

Instead they are going to ruin their careers with possible jail time.

They knew there was such a thing as dash board cams, I can't begin to understand how they thought they could get away with very blatant lies unless their superiors promised them the cam cam video would never see the light of day....

Anyone surprised how Obama has remained silent in this issue?

His support for a crooked politician like Rahm Emanuel is disgusting.

So a "good cop" is one who will let a murderer go free in order to protect their job.

In which case, I have to agree that 99% of all cops are "good cops"

Snitching is only a positive when cops want you to do it while still living next door to criminals. Cops have made it clear time and time again that they won't do it to each other.

They're probably so used to getting away with crime that they thought this wouldn't be any different. Keep in mind none of the five officers who lied to cover up this crime are being charged and the two officers who went to the Burger King to destroy that video are also not facing any charges.

So 5 bad cops.
And another 15 or so on the scene who claimed they didn't see what happened! For 24 seconds & 16 shots!

Including the lady cop who's vehicle had the video recorder that made the well-known video that was publicly circulated - she claims she bent down under the dash for something!

They're all good cops!

All the above is absolutely true & accurate.

But please tell me you're not condoning this behaviour.

I recall local news recently claiming another 5 coppers involved in this incident are either being examined for charges, or are to be charged. Not sure if it's by the feds or local DA.

These guys would seem to be the likely culprits!

In any kind of sane world, Rahm would have to resign or be recalled, if there is such a thing possible in Chicago. From what I understand, the city paid the family $5 million, right after the election, but before the family even filed a formal lawsuit, and Rahm knew nothing about anything. So he's mayor, and someone in his administration cuts a check that big, and he doesn't ask why, doesn't ask to see any tape, doesn't have a deputy see the tape and fill him in, they just say, "Hey Boss, we need $5 million for some kid who got shot 16 times, and who we publicly say was attacking our officers. We good?" Rahm: "Yea, whatever!"

Morning Jasper
Reading an article this week and it was about his resigning. People have seen thru the sham he put in place till after the election.
And yes, he should resign.
