Russia adding 2nd airbase in Syria, pursuing 'expansion' in military campaign

Re: A second Russian airbase in Syria

Moscow’s presence has grown to a total of four forward operating bases, including recently added bases in Hama and Tiyas. But the most concerning to the Pentagon is the second airbase in Shayrat which can support fixed-wing aircraft, greatly expanding Russia’s capability for airstrikes, which began on Sept. 30.

Re: A second Russian airbase in Syria

How many airbases does the USofA have around the friggin world????

Why so much fear over Russia and what they do in Syria?

Let Russia have Syria.

Sense you didn't quote me, I'll assume that's just a general question. You may know that I'm not fearful of Russia and I'm glad that they are taking the front role that they are to restore security to Syria. Western interference there is down right criminal. So I support the Russian efforts there.

Re: A second Russian airbase in Syria

Meanwhile, Obama would much rather fight his imaginary enemies, as the Wall Street Journal pointed out.

Climate is much less scary than jihadists, Putin, and China.

That is sort of missing the essence of the situation, you know?

You miss understand. The US is being pushed out of Syria.

I don't know what situation you refer to but I think Dragon was questioning any criticism of Russia having military bases abroad is checked by the massive footprint of the US. The op wasn't intended to make that point though, perhaps that's what you meant?

Nope. The move is a step that was discussed as certain to come in the debate of the '90s. As such the US footprint is unimportant except incidentally. Thus the remark misses the important aspects and directs interest away from productive thought.

Well, I hope Dragon comes back for that. ;)

Doesn't matter how many times you me this claim still doesn't make it true. I would ask you to provide some evidence of your claim but as you were unable to in the other thread you made this claim I doubt this one would be any different.

Ok, make a list for me of American assets in Syria.

Re: A second Russian airbase in Syria

Russia is doing things correctly at least. They are attacking Isis, without letting refugees migrate to Russia so they don't have bigger headaches down the road.

They are taking out rebels first, ISIL is secondary. they want the west left with 2 options- Assad or ISIL.
This is a failed strategy.

The US is presently sending special forces into Syria, this will expand. A counter balance to Russia.

Manpads on the way from Saudi via turkey. Hinds are highly susceptible to these.
Same as fixed wing on takeoff/landing.

Obama today called on the ally's to stop financing the Islamic State and Stop sending arms and foreign fighters into Syria.

You think that the US is going to take on Russia in Syria. Russia is invited in, again, the US/Turkey and others are the interlopers.

You haven't heard Assad saying that. The "moderate" rebels that so many nations are supporting are the chief threat to Assad and naturally get the most attention. Putin stood up before the G-20 and criticized the failure of the coalition to hit the Islamic State supply lines that he provided satellite and arial photos of. Pointed out that there are 40 nations financing the Islamic State. He's not sympathetic or indifferent to them. He's just focussing on the greater threat presently.

Russia has a naval base, shipping port, four forward operating bases, two airbases and a missile defense system being installed. They have half a dozen T-90's, 15 howitzers and 35 APC's so far. They aren't going anywhere. So, unless overthrowing Assad is that god damn important, the US will be de-escalating.

And Syria cannot contain ISIL across borders and has every legal right to pursue iSIL into Syria.
So the US was invited in.

Oh, oh, I so hope that the Russians will be coaxed into direct ground involvement. It seems like they are trending in that direction so I'm crossing my fingers!

Not sure I get your point.

Russia is hitting rebels first and more often, you know it, i know it. the rebels are the priority.

Nope- and the tank have not yet deployed with Russian commanders. TOW missiles are quite hard on the T 90.
