Boston teen banned from cheerleading after tweet about immigrants [W:39]

With that kind of grammar she must have been failing English and maybe many more subjects.

head cheerleader ... a designation i would never want for my own daughter

but that school admonishment will teach her to go rogue and post on facebook about civics instead of makeup. what the hell was she thinking

What specific charges counselor? Please to list them. Is this really the america you want to live in?

Ahhh the whiny rightie America we live in....

Never mind the 'victim' isn't an adult but in the school system which many righties wish would still spank unruly kids...

Never mind the ONLY part of the story being released is a carefully pruned version to incite the rightie rant crew...

Never mind we have lived in this America for generations- schools get far more control over a student than an adult out on the street...

Let's jut take a tiny part of an incident and run wild with it. This is a school discipline issue- not a court of law.

Some righties need to get both a grip and clue.... :peace

This is ridiculous. The PC police need to get a life. She could have tweeted blacklivesmatter kill da poleece all day and no one would have kicked her off the cheer team.

Show us where a cheerleader tweeted that and wasn't disciplined...

Otherwise that's just Trumping an issue.... (talking BS that only the most partisan supporters think is true)... :peace

'cept of course it wasn't civics but rightie BS...

I have no idea what you are on about or who you are talking to.

the head cheerleader was required to follow the debates in her civics class. that prompted her to then post about a current civics matter. her own view of it
thus it WAS civics
unless your definition of civics is only that view you hold, which would then justify you to dismiss that opinion of another

That would be a real stretch to believe that's what she meant... and would your perception be the prevailing community standards of the time? Don't think that qualifies as #2.

My guess would be that the school considers this a pattern of behavior, has tried to get her to stop senselessly rambling about illegals, and she refused to do so. I don't see why anyone cares when a school renders consequences for specific expressions of freedom.

Do they think no one is allowed to punish their snowflake when their snowflake insults all hispanics by presuming they immigrated illegally ?

Seemed to make perfect sense to me.

Right wingers are whining about this head cheerleader having to face trivial consequences over her own behavioral issues. Probably, they would also claim that unruly students should be spanked or smacked with a ruler.

But this cheerleader was implicitly racist about hispanics so she's on the right winger's side right ? Lol...

how was her comment a reflection against hispanics. she used the term illegals. certainly illegals are not necessarily hispanics. and certainly hispanics are not necessarily illegals
it was a massive - and inappropriate - reach by the school

Saying your town is 90% illegals is an inflammatory statement, hispanic or otherwise. Due to the political climate, i think it's fair to interpret this as an expression used to insult hispanics.

To the extent that they are affiliated with a school, they are a representative of that school.

she is a student at that school
she said nothing about her school
she made a personal comment ... however inane it happened to be
in no way did it besmirch the school
it was only a reflection of her own (narrow) views
and thus an over-reach by the school to even address it

but maybe i am wrong
please show us what she posted and how that comment reflects negatively upon her school

she said not one word about hispanics
nowhere does she mention hispanics/latinos
her comment was about illegals
what is wrong in opposing illegality in a facebook post?

It appears that she's not only a nativist, but also a liar

Somebody's a liar. I'll give you that. I see nothing to indicate who that somebody is.

My guess would be that the school had an incident that they cannot discuss for privacy reasons. For example, perhaps she called one of her peers an "illegal."

Then, she went on twitter to vent about "illegals." Did the school say they did this over the tweet? No, they specifically said there is more to this story that they cannot discuss to protect student privacy.

There is a fundamental lack of trust in schools to regulate student behavior, all the more bizarre since right wingers often treat teachers like overpaid babysitters.

Frankly, i think we should let schools do their jobs instead of putting the spotlight on every punished snowflake yearning for pity.

That's not really the point.

It's believably offensive to a reasonable person. She probably should have exercised better judgement.

Probably, this tweet is simply one link in a long line of offensive behavior that was not limited to her private life.

If some 15 year old racist girl came screaming to me about how her school punished her over a tweet, and the school said "it was not because of a tweet, we cannot elaborate due to privacy reasons," then i would be a fool to believe the 15 year old racist girl.

No? Because i see a whiney idiot with no sense of decency shamelessly running to the right wing media for 15 minutes of fame. I think she's a shoe-in for the liar.

Of course, some people harbor excessive anti-school prejudice so they have no choice but to take any anti-school message at face value.

I don't. What I see is two sides of the same story. Neither side has any verification.

No, they did not say there was more to the story, they just implied it, and in such a way as to be a blanket excuse to cover their asses because this got to the press.

This isn't the school doing their job. Their job is not to address tweets by students, nor is it their job to protect the illegal community.
