It's a jarring ad, but one not completely inappropriate considering the show's subject matter: an adaptation of Philip K. Dick's 1962 novel about a dystopian future where the Allied Powers lost World War II.

But many are saying that Amazon crossed the line with the Man in the High Castle campaign that saw the 42nd St. MTA Shuttle in New York wrapped in Nazi and Imperial Japanese imagery.

Marketing is a young man's game as far as the visual dimensions of the trade are concerned. New artists bring new understandings of history with them. This however is dangerous in that sometimes a lot of the agencies and departments that these artists work for do not grasp the importance behind the imagery because it feels like it happened too long ago.

When that happens, we get situations like this. It was good of Amazon to remove the ads but I would definitely have a talk with the team that put this campaign together and brainstorm ways of not insulting... Jewish people, American vets, homosexuals, Russians, and pretty much anybody who had to suffer or fight back against Nazi Germany.... all... at the same time.

That said, the show is pretty good.

The campaign was well thought out right up until they approved the artwork for such a public campaign.

I'm iffy on this. It's been well over 50years, seems to me people need to get over it by now. I mean we tell 20-30 yos who had abusive parents that they have to get over it and quit over-reacting even though their abuse is only a few years in the past. On the other hand, I just don't think enough people were aware of the series or even the books to have understood it was a marketing campaign and therefore would seem tasteless to say the least.

The only problem with this is that the show is about NAZIS!!!! But it's alternative history. So what about the non-stop advertisements on TV or this below sprawled across the amazon website? Also I have a Fire TV and that is advertising this show on the home screen every time I go to binge-watch something with the below image as well. That being said I thought the pilot was amazing as well. But I'm too busy and currently watching Jessica Jones on Netflix. Maybe I'll get the chance to catch up this weekend.

I guess jews don't use amazon or fire tv?
I love these selective banning campaigns.

Next thing you know they are going to make a show in Germany speculating what would have happened had the Germans lost WWII.

I would think there is a significant difference between a 20-30 year old needing to get over abuse, and a World War that resulted in the deaths of 10's of millions of people. Some things need to be put down and left in the past, and some need NEVER be forgotten.

In today's age of political over-sensitivity... it was not very smart of Amazon to run with that ad campaign.
