If the Islamic State was presenting the same problem to Assad that forces the US has been supporting are, they'd be targeted too. It's not a matter of Russia being ok with the Islamic State, it's that Russia is meeting it's obligation to its ally.

If you were on the revving end of their bombing, indescribable bombing, families, all wiped out, neighborhoods flattened, would you fell the same charity towards them?

A slower certain death is more disgusting than a quick one, correct.

A bullet is probably the fastest way.

Cutting is certainly the slowest way.

In merry olde England they used to execute by cutting -- first disembowelment, then dismemberment, then beheading. That was probably the worst of all -- 18th Century values.

Bomber pilots are never popular anywhere over enemy ground.

The whole reason I avoided aviation even though it is loads of fun is because I did not want to be the target of a SAM or caught behind enemy lines.

Artillery is probably the safest job because you are in the rear behind the gear.

JANFU buddy, these same people gloating over the dead Russian pilot have killed their own share of civilians in their clashes with the Syrian army. These forces are often imbedded amongst civilians. You know what people like to say about Hamas and Hezbollah, shielding amongst civilians, and the pass that Israel is given for high civilian casualties when they attack them. These insurgents aren't gloating because Putin's been killing civilians, their gloating because Putin's killing them as they pursue their ambition of regime changing his ally.

If I was a Syrian citizen, the Russian planes are likely the only ones I'd welcome. Unless I wasn't in the 70% of the population that was approving of president Assad, sense they are the only ones seeking to perpetuate the Assad government. All other planes that have been bombing in Syria, Israeli, US, Canadian, French, they all share the ambition of regime change.

You shouldn't doubt the numbers.

Well, after five years of a dozen nations each pursuing regime change of the Assad government, and his fighting them to remain in power, yeah, I doubt those numbers would be the same now, but who's conducting polls in Syria presently? Assad certainly enjoyed an approval of 70% before these nations began pursuing him though.

They're neither moderate nor an alternative. President Assad is Russia's ally, not a band of misfits that the US wants in there. A group they could never control once they had the power anyway.

Well I'm definitely going to regret this if the only existing new source reporting this isn't true, but yesterday Russians did carpet bomb an entire city of 60,000 people, so it's safe to say the gloves have come off on both sides.

Let's be clear, pilots in that area of the world are not "helpless" nor innocent bystanders nor collateral damage, they are by all accounts fair game as they would be considered the warring enemies of those that killed them.

I cannot begin to express how much I don't care that our enemies are killing each other. Assuming it was ISIS or al-Nusra that gunned them down. If it was some of our allied militia than all the better.

Fighter pilots carry sidearms they killed the enemy which is called warfare the Russian pigs are there to bolster the butcher Assad who drops chemical weapons and cylinder block buster bombs on civilians they are also actively aiding ISIS by attacking rebel groups aligned with the real coalition and are actively fighting both ISIS and the war criminal Assad, Putin is a war criminal pig aiding war criminal pigs I only wish that it was he who was killed but these murdering Russian baby killers will have to suffice for now.

Putin is a war criminal aiding his fellow war criminal Assad which is why I'm not suprised you support them both neither of them are targeting ISIS they are targeting civilians with chemical weapons and cylinder block buster bombs and they are actively aiding ISIS by targeting the rebels who actually fighting ISIS as well as the mass murderer Assad.

There you go with broad and wholly inaccurate statements again. A fraction of Syrians population which mostly supported president Assad, rose up in southern Syria nearly five years ago. Nearly a dozen nations, all of which wanted regime change in Syria, coopted this uprising pumping money and fighters into it. You may think Obama's done way too little, but you're incorrect in blaming him for doing nothing.

The Syrian Turkmen Brigades, which claimed to have shot the parachuting pilots, engaged in a war crime. Their actions highlight the brutal nature of Syria's sectarian conflict where the parties, including the so-called "moderate" ones, routinely ignore civilian protections. The individuals responsible and organization should be held accountable for their war crimes, including but not limited to the one carried out against the Russian pilots.
