'Anonymous declares war on Islamic State after Paris attacks in chilling video: 'We will hunt you down'

Hacker group Anonymous have declared war against ISIS after the attacks in Paris on Friday night.

Posting a video on YouTube, the group said it would use its knowledge to "unite humanity" and warned the terrorists to "expect us".

Behind their signature mask, a spokesperson speaking in French said: "Anonymous from all over the world will hunt you down.

"You should know that we will find you and we will not let you go.

"We will launch the biggest operation ever against you.

"Expect massive cyber attacks. War is declared. Get prepared.

"The French people are stronger than you and will come out of this atrocity even stronger."'

No matter what thread this is in, it's still hilarious that a hacker group thinks they can make much of a dent in a group that is pretty much stuck in the 7th century. Although, maybe they can hack their email, chat rooms and other electronic communications and share it with the world through WikiLeaks, unless they only support doing such things to actual real governments. No matter, that I would love to see.

It took 100+ people dead for a group of potato chip eating neck beards to throw their hat into thwarting terrorism? I guess DDOSS'ing companies they don't like can only be fun for so long.

Yeah, I'm sure ISIS is so concerned with their twitter account being hacked!

What the hell is that group of impotent, social crusaders going to do anyway? Nothing positive, Anonymous never does anything positive. Just a bunch of vigilante wanna-be's living in their parent's basements.

While the group may desire to live in a pre-modernized society, there can be little doubt that Daesh recognizes the ability of modern tools to accomplish that goal. Since declaring the war on Daesh, Anonymous has taken down several thousand Twitter accounts associated with the group.

They are doing good work.

Destroying the primary methods through which Daesh spreads propaganda and recruits new members are simultaneously worthwhile goals and accomplishing something positive.

BWWWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I mean, I was just being facetious when I said all they could do is go after twitter accounts, but it seems like that's all they can do. I bet ISIS is SOOOOOOOOOOO crippled now because their twitter accounts have been hacked.

"We were about to put a jihad on you all, but our twitter account was hacked and now we can't organize anything" said no terrorist group ever.

Anonymous is just playing with themselves, they ain't gonna do ****.

Yeah, there were never terrorist organizations before the advent of twitter

One of the SINGULAR reasons that Daesh is one of the most threatening terrorist groups in existence today is specifically because of their usage of social media platforms to recruit and spread propaganda.

I could very easily make the argument that degrading that capability is more effective and important than carpet bombing a given area. If you mess up while shutting down twitter accounts, then some freedom of speech is slightly impinged, but there is very little recruitment value in Daesh going after someone because their twitter account was hacked. If you mess up while carpet bombing, then dozens of innocent lives are lost and Daesh has a propaganda tool easily capable of recruiting hundreds more to their cause.

I take from your signature block that you oppose governmental forceful intervention into stopping Daesh. And based on your comment, you clearly do not support Anonymous' method of destroying their presence on social media.

So, if you don't mind me asking, do you support or have a suggestion of any way to stop or hamper Daesh?

I thought the same thing, but it could hinder their ability to seduce young people via social media.

You can very easily make any argument you want. Twitter attacks will not diminish radical terrorism in the least. These groups existed well before social media, and while they may use it for their propaganda wars, they are not dependent upon them.

Maybe if ISIS calls it quits because their twitter was hacked, I'll believe it. But till then, this is just useless gestures that will produce no statistical real world affect.
