University of Missouri protests grow after athletes jump in

I wonder what would've happened had the president and/or chancellor told the athletes, "Fine. Don't play."

This thread is pretty revealing.

It seems like nearly everyone but the uni's administration wanted this president gone. Students wanted it. Faculty wanted it. Alumni wanted. Heck, even republicans in the state legislature wanted it.

But when some black students started calling for his resignation, the right wingers suddenly want to keep the guy.

I have no real opinion on whether or not the guy should remain President. It's not my school, not my state, not really my concern. If there's a strong coalition that seems to span political or cultural lines it would seem a good indication for why he should resign or be removed if there's a proper mechanism for that.

That said, one can believe that the President stepping down and/or being removed in accordance with university and/or state policy while at the same time believe that many of the other "Demands"...and the very fact they're being presented as demands....are unreasonable and/or ridiculous and that the arguments for them are inherently weak or lacking.

Erod, every student must believe that he or she can experience "success." Measurable "student success" has become the focus of universities. During annual performance evals, faculty members' "student success rate" is discussed and how this can be improved. Well, we all know how: grade inflation.
They were raised on 'Participation' trophies where everyone gets a blue ribbon. They've probably done very well in the self-esteem classes and never want their reality threatened.

Did any of these people offer a reasonable, and provable, explanation for wanting him fired?

If it was because he's an obvious wuss then their point has been made.

Planned a year ahead of time, but would be a great middle finger to the players lol

Oh I know. Might have been a good idea to suspend it for this game though.

And give in to PC bull****? Nah. Let them cry about it so they can further devalue their position for crying about the color of a jersey that was set a year ago.

Civilization would have won a victory.

Sadly, he did not.

Yes

That was one of the issues

So what was the reason Rutgers students had Condoleeza Rice removed from the speaking forum list?

These kids just want to be mothered and pandered to. They no longer see college as a place for challenge and exchange of opinions. These Mizzou kids basically invaded their university and exacted a hostile takeover of the administration.

Universities everywhere are reconsidering those relaxed standards in the spirit of diversity, I assure you.

Why did they want her removed? Good question. It couldn't be that liberals only want liberal slanted speakers in their ivory tower

You well know that the decision was influenced most heavily by the Board of Curators, in not directed by them. Also deeply involved in the process were the chancellor, the alumni association, athletic director, the governor, the state legislature, the student government association and more.

I would submit to you that it was not solely Wolfe's decision. It may not have been his decision at all. He may well have the Board of Curators that he had no intention whatsoever of resigning. The board may have given Wolfe "an offer he couldn't refuse", one that didn't include his continuation as president.

Considering all that the state has been going through and how much it has to have influenced the state economy, business, and god knows what else I am inclined to think that the decision was made way over Wolfe's head. Had to be.

Perhaps it was.

We have at least one Mizzou alum who posts here, so I'm hoping that we'll be hearing some inside dish.

Stay classy protesters.

Perhaps they need to check their American privledge.

No, not a damn thing I've seen or heard about at Mizzou is not "equally messed up" as what just happened in Paris.

Staggering that these people would equate Mizzou with Paris. Yikes.

If you listen carefully, you might hear the whispered one-note song of a special snowflake or five..."Me, me, me, me, me!"
