ExxonMobil under investigation for allegedly misleading the public about climate change

The investigation focuses on whether ExxonMobil intentionally clouded public debate about science and hid from investors the risks that climate change could pose to its business according to a person familiar with the matter.

Schneiderman has broad leeway to take on such a sweeping target under both consumer protection laws and New York’s Martin Act, a securities law that protects investors.

Violating investment laws, well it can really bite.

If it's true, I hope they go after them. But Exxon is, I think, the largest corporation in the world. I don't know that the fed can do much about what Exxon does. The fed even gives such a large subsidy to Exxon that it has at times paid zero income tax in the U.S., if you can imagine that. (I imagime Exxon is against a 5% flat tax, since that would mean it would have to pay an income tax.)

There's a difference between spin, and falsifying facts. I think that's one reason why some people are in the dark about climate change. They don't know much about the subject, and just believe snippets of info they read by those with an interest in there not being climate change/global warming.

One poster on this site was going on about how there was no way that scientists could know what the temperature and such were thousands of years ago, so he didn't believe any info about that. He really was almost totally ignorant about the subject and about science. I explained to him how scientists conduct those tests and can tell what temperatures were thousands of years ago, what vegetation grew in the area, and the like. You would think that at least someone would recognize when they are not very informed on a subject. But some people just choose to believe what they read by those with an interest in your not believing it.

That's all I needed to read, didn't need to see about what this time.

It's a major corporation. When does a major corporation NOT mislead the public about it's products?

wow this is a dangerous case to even be in front of a court.
who came up with this BS nonsense?

if I was a judge I would throw it out. it isn't up for the court to decide on climate change.

Re: ExxonMobil under investigation for allegedly misleading the public about climate

The court has to decide if they acted illegally in covering up what they knew about how climate change would affect their business.

Re: ExxonMobil under investigation for allegedly misleading the public about climate

I just wonder whom might consider any information coming from a corporation as not in their favor?

Isn't that kinda foolish?
