Bomb by Islamic State likely caused Russian plane crash: security sources | Reuters

Evidence now suggests that a bomb planted by the Islamic State militant group is the likely cause of last weekend's crash of a Russian airliner over Egypt's Sinai peninsula, U.S. and European security sources said on Wednesday.

Islamic State, which controls swathes of Iraq and Syria and is battling the Egyptian army in the Sinai Peninsula, said again on Wednesday it brought down the airplane, adding it would eventually tell the world how it carried out the attack.

Credible - Yes
Security for checked baggage is and always has been an open door.
Using staff inside the facility would and could be done.
Smuggling a bomb in, well is it or would it be that difficult?
Thoughts?

It wouldn't be the first Russian passenger jet that got blown up mid flight. If they have the flight data recorder is shouldn't be that hard to put together.

I have another dumb question -- they're not able to definitively determine if it was a bomb or not, but they know who planted it? I know ISIS is Public Enemy No. 1, but there certainly are other organizations capable of planting a bomb on a plane.

Maybe it was ISIS, maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was a bomb, maybe it wasn't. All I'm seeing is a lot of speculation and unnamed sources talking about what they "feel" happened.

You're right, we don't know. Islamic State has claimed responsibility though and they claim they will reveal how soon, presumably after everybody's done guessing and fighting over it.

I don't see any reason the Russians should doubt their claim. It doesn't matter if they brought down this airliner--even if they didn't, they have already done far more than enough to prove they must be destroyed. This would just tend to make them a higher priority in the Russians' plan of attack than they might otherwise have been.

Hey if it means a SOB as ruthless and intelligent as Putin decides he wants to use the considerable resources of Russia to wage Jihad against Isis I say great. Hopefully his KGB hit teams can kill every last one of them and save us the effort

That's BS, ISIS cliamed they shot down the airliner with a missile...that was a lie. There was no missile. ISIS will lie every chance it gets.

I don't think they mentioned a missile, just that they brought it down and the press assumed a missile was used.

But yeah, they have made false claims before.
