TransCanada Suspends Request for Permit to Build Keystone Pipeline

Re: Breaking news……

President Airhead successfully kills another jobs opportunity. Good job, asshole!

Re: Breaking news……

Good news indeed! Though the Ogallala Aquifer will be depleted soon enough by mankind, perhaps it will not be poisoned in the process. :)

Re: Breaking news……

Actually, what really happened is a bit nuanced. They killed it, hoping that the next president is going to be a Republican. That way, they don't have to spend any money in the mean time on legal costs. So they haven't really killed it. They are just doing some smart economics.

Re: Breaking news……

Love the thread title, the suspense was too much.

It is believed the company pullout is a function of the nation elects swept the government of the conservatives majority putting in charge a liberal government which strongly opposes the pipeline in both Canada and the United States.............

So if a Republican is elected in 2016 it is fair to say...........the pipeline is a dead issue

It's not like that. The Liberals in Canada are not against the pipeline. They are on the fence, but will accept it if a deal is worked out. 'Ya gotta remember that, in Canada, Liberal and Conservative have totally different meanings than they do in the US.

Re: Breaking news……

oh no what about the 6 jobs it was going to create?

Well maybe we have different news sources...............and just because there may be differences of being able to equate US and Canada two..................It still does not change the fact Keystone is dead............The company seeking a permit to build it has asked STATE to withdraw its request for permit..............and there remains so serious eminent domain issues is some state courts which do not seem to be going the Keystone pipelines way..................If keystone fails to get the right to use the government's power of eminent domain in all the states where it is an issue............Keystone is dead............

Keystone made some sense when demand for oil was high...............now the world's supply of oil is equal or better than whatever keystone could supply...........

The deal is dead 'fersure given the current political an d market conditions

Those poor folks are just plum out of luck................

....and will just have to wait for the next GOP jobs program................

Once again, the pipeline is not dead, just suspended. There is a difference. From the article......

The White House had no comment on the request for a delay, which was made in a letter to John Kerry, the secretary of state, and the State Department said it was looking into it.

Again, this is a request for a delay on the permit decision.

NO.........they asked to withdraw it..................No matter the case, the pipeline makes no economic sense with gas selling below $2................If gas goes back to $5 Keystone may resubmit and wait another 7-8 years for an answer

Special Permit Application Withdrawn for Keystone Gulf Coast Expansion Pipeline

Re: Breaking news……

President Airhead successfully kills another jobs opportunity. Good job, asshole!

That pipeline would eliminate many trucking jobs.

Now we have to get the oil to the gulf using American truckers and railways, also operated by Americans.

Seems like we've saved more jobs than we've killed.

LOL You mean oil is too cheap to make it profitable then yes. Tar sand crud is the most expensive oil on the planet.....and the dirtiest. We need to save it for a few generations.

Lol, you really think this is dead.

Have it as you must.......but don't hold your breath waiting for the ribbon cutting for the new pipeline............

BTW

I see you live in Texas...............if built has anyone told you where they plan to dump the toxic and radioactive waste after distillation?.................Or how long it will take to deplete in the Texas aquifer..........

Bet you never heard about those issue brought up on Hannity

Re: Breaking news……

It's unfortunate that the liberals and greens wanted to fight over a pipeline that, although runs the costly risk of oil spills, still tends to be a better option than continuing to rely even more on rail and truck transport (which is far more dangerous).

Actually most liberals and likely all Greens want real not token resources put into renewable technology.

Resources, like access to, seems to mean public funds, generally, in the form of crony capitalism.

Public funds??? You mean tax dollars, if so, yeah that too, but not just that, the R&D that brought us oil was mostly private money. Don't see what "chronic capitalism" has to do with anything.

Re: Breaking news……

And another win for Obama, another loss for American jobs. Trends are trends.

There would be some short-term temporary jobs but very little in the way of long term employment. We'd be giving Canada easier access to the world oil market in exchange for those few jobs, and an ever-present risk for a massive oil spill on our soil.

That's a bad deal for us.

Obama Refuses TransCanada Request to Suspend Keystone XL Pipeline Approval

Republicans, and even Canada’s former prime minister, have spent five years railing on President Barack Obama for taking “way too long” to grant a foreign corporation, TransCanada, permission to construct a tar sand pipeline……. the White House has announced that despite TransCanada’s request, the President will not “yield to big oil” to delay his decision on Keystone XL, and that he will make the final decision before he leaves office.
Despite TransCanada’s request for a halt on permit request, Obama plans to make final decision on project…..
White House Aims to Complete Keystone Pipeline Review - WSJ

It would seem if not dead already...........it looks like Obama is going to make sure it will not live....

Actually most liberals and likely all Greens want real not token resources put into renewable technology.

And why should that be done at the expense of current problems with domestic shipment of oil?

While we pursue alternative energy sources, you're still having to deal with the infrastructural and safety problems related to oil. That doesn't magically disappear.
