WASHINGTON — The House narrowly passed a $1.1 trillion spending package on Thursday that would fund most government operations for the fiscal year after a rancorous debate that reflected the new power held by Republicans and the disarray among Democrats in the aftermath of the midterm elections.

Just under the wire. Neither Democrats or Republicans got everything they wanted out of it, but this compromise is a good one. America's standing in the world does not take a hit again. This time, the House DID attend to the business of America. Thank you, guys, and especially you, John Boehner, for making this happen.

Boehner did the right thing indeed. Good on him. And of course he is already being reviled by the conservative base, and his frustration with the base is probably really why he's stepping down.

I am glad that the debt ceiling has increased, but this spending bill is not good. $300 billion to fight ISIS in Iraq & Syria?? Insane.

I would like to see automatic debt ceiling increases so we don't have to pass a bad budget to keep our credit rating from being damaged.

It is a financial disaster. It embarrasses me.

When will we say enough? When will we begin to reduce the debt. It appears we may reach the predicted 25 Trillion Bucks in debt by 2020. How much debt load can we survive?

Much, much, much, much more than we already have. Just means it will take more time for GDP growth to make it all moot.
