Parents and children have been warned by officers to "remain vigilant" following the suspicious incidents in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.Police have said they will be liaising with local schools after a number of different incidents were reported to officers in recent weeks.
The suspicious incidents have involved people travelling in vans and approaching children.
Some of the children have reported being approached by people wearing clown or Halloween masks, who were deliberately trying to scare pupils walking to and from schools.

Tunbridge Wells Chief Inspector Dave Pate said: "We are still working to establish whether any offences have been committed.
"However, I want assure parents that we take the safety of all children very seriously and have extra officers on patrol around schools.

I have to admit, I am not familiar with UK law on the subject, but don't you Brit's have 'menacing laws'? And why the mealy mouthed "...checking into whether any offences...." Are your cops afraid of the clown union or something? Would they be accused of being 'anti clown'?

These are kids we are talking about here.....

The offenders are probably kids as well. Sounds like something stupid high schoolers would do. If it turns out to be adults, well, that is a bit creepy.

This happened in France a while ago. A clown said this about it - “The best thing that could happen is that people stop talking about them,” says Philippe Herreman, director at Association Ch’tiClown, a social organisation that visits hospitals and care homes to alternately cheer and petrify their patients"/(vice.com)

These evil clowns are giving regular clowns a bad name.

Halloween is nigh and the weirdos are out in full force.

If the "clowns" are just guys in a van playing tomfoolery then any arrests would be over the top. The stalking bit sounds much more serious but the other thing is that although the men were in vans, the police have no registration numbers or ID to go after.

Surprises me as most kids now have smartphones with pretty good cameras so it would be easy to photograph suspicious activity.

Whoever this is they should not clown around like a bunch of bozos.

But why haven't the regular clowns spoken out? I don't see any evidence of respectable, orderly clowns. All I see is people squirting each other with lapels, and hitting each other with ladders.
