UN: Cyber Violence is Equivalent to Physical Violence

The report also argues that “cyber touch is recognized as equally as harmful as physical touch,” suggesting that online harassment might be just as lethal as domestic violence or sexual abuse.

This is absolute nonsense. Stop and think for just a second about this. "Violence", in a digital online environment, is a physical impossibility. You literally can not commit an act of violence over the internet. Once again though, the SJW crowd is continuing to redefine simple and already clear terms to further their Kafkaesque agenda and silence their critics.

Sarkeesian suggested:

"Harassment doesn’t simply consist of what is legal and illegal, but also the day-to-day grind of ‘you’re a liar’ and ‘you suck'."

So we now have to censor the internet when somebody tells Anita Sarkeesian that she is a liar (which is actually the truth, she is also a fraudster btw), so this poor professional damsel in distress doesn't have her fee-fees hurt. These people have such thin skin that they can't even handle somebody telling them "you suck", and they push to get laws enacted against anything they find offensive.

Unbelievable.

Uh no, its emotional abuse but not physical violence. I mean you can still use it to make a person want to kill themselves but like its still not the same thing.

I would argue that what Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn are talking about isn't even "emotional abuse". They may not like it, but "you're a liar" is not emotional abuse. "You suck" is not emotional abuse. Now that isn't to say that there aren't actual cases of online harassment, where people dox and threaten and swat. Those are legit cases of harassment and should be dealt with. However, what they are trying to define as harassment is just ridiculous.

They want to be free to criticize others, but can not handle criticism of themselves.

Youtuber makes a video pointing out the lies and hypocrisy of FemFreq, gets 10k views.
"The hordes of harassers! Save me!"

FemFreq shame the devs of a game to their 300k followers.
"Just critics expressing their opinions. No hordes here. Nuh-uh. No sir."

I seriously hate these people.

If one is being harassed on the internet, the solution is pretty simple.....get off the internet. I just don't get people who complain of being harassed etc. on Facebook, but they keep logging in to check what people say. As for people being driven to suicide by what people say over the internet, sorry, but that is just ridiculous and weak. For goodness sake, just get rid of Facebook. I don't belong to any social media like Facebook or Twitter, never bothered to ever get an account. I don't need to message people every five minutes, describing in minute detail every facet of my day and I don't need to be in contact with people every five minutes. People I care about ring me and TALK to me and I do the same. I come to places like debate politics and enjoy a good read, but that's it. If someone was mean and nasty to me here, I would do one of two things....deal with it or remove DebatePolitics from my list of favourites and never return.

I think the problem is that technology is outpacing people's ethics and moral standards.

Is there such thing as "violent rhetoric"? After-all its just words...

The fact that they included claims of harassment about Zoe Quinn, when it has been alleged that she set up some of her instances of harassment, is obnoxious.
At the very least they should of verified the truth of these statements of harassment.

According to them, asking them for proof of harassment is itself harassment and victim blaming.

Listen and believe bro. It's 2015.

Might I suggest the "Ignore" feature rather than logging off? Why log off completely over some abusive idiot?

Suggest whatever you want to suggest. I said what I said and I'm sticking to it.

IOW: Take a hike. You have just wasted your time and my time. Please don't do it again.

Too many people on this planet have nothing to say but they go ahead and say it. Thereby wasting everyone's time.

Including mine.

We are long past the point where we should have withdrawn from the UN and sent it packing.

On another note,

If the UN claim is enforced then DP will have to remove the Basement feature.

What a load of crock. When I play online games I play both as a male and a female characters. I've always found that the female characters tend to get treated a hell of a lot nicer. From how people talk to them to getting free stuff. When the people I'm playing with know that I'm a male irl I rarely get the kind of stuff/treatment that I get when the people I'm playing with think I'm a female. Something which I've used to my benefit at times, particularly when arguments start happening in world chat.

One of the people at that event, got busted colluding with several online gaming news sites, in addition to allegedly doxing themselves in order to gain sympathy on Steam Greenlight.
In addition to all that, some rather nasty news came out that those several online gaming news sites, were colluding with each other to suppress the story.

That's how this whole #Gamergate thing got started. Those guys turned it to Gamers hate women.

Sarkeesian suggested

Oh not this ****ing ridiculous man-hating piece of **** again.

Her and her ridiculous genderbaiting need to go to the darkest bowels of the internet from whence they came.

Sarkeesian is a ****ty human being and a liar. First Amendment free speech and 100% accurate to boot - she can sit and spin.

and of course the solution is; more regulation of the internet; more control; more big government.

'for the children/women/insert divide and conquer demographic here', of course.

could the agenda possibly get more transparent?

First, no one should ever have to log off or avoid online social media programs because of harassment they receive. It is their right to use social media, forums, etc. (provided that they adhere within the rules those mediums of course). Avoidance of such a problem is not a solution.

Second, online harassment goes well beyond run-of-the-mill cyber bullying. Death threats, socially humiliating photos, blackmail, doxxing, computer hacks, and revenge porn are just a few things to name that can be just as damaging to someone (if not more so) than actual physical violence (depending on the type of violence of course; but it goes hand in hand when you're receiving at least dozens of detailed violent threats by people, all of whom have knowledge of where you live).

It is very understandable that the un should take up the desires of its membership's governments. Most want to have ligitimized tools to cut down free information exchange in the Internet. This is even true of relatively open societies like the European countries.
