Pulled over for direct eye contact.

What was his violation??????? Turning his turn signal on at 90 ft as opposed to 100 ft?????? You really think that is worthy of pulling some one over???

I was a municipal prosecutor in Hamilton county (Cincinnati) for four years. I would have told the cop to 86 that citation. Its BS

You eye-****ing me maggot?

You can be pulled over for 1 mph over speed limit. Just because most don't bother doesn't mean you can't be

every judge I ever tried a traffic case in front of would have reamed the cop out for that

Im surprised he didnt pull the ol' " A car matching this description has been used in a number of burglaries/executions/dog nappings/jewel heists." I havent even so much as tasted a beer in 20 years and,..amazingly enough ....5 different officers in 3 different states have "detected the smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle" upon pulling me over.

Or they can always use their old standby, you were driving while black. That always seems to work.

What are you talking about? I can excuse the media that LIED in their headline. That's what they do. But...don't you READ? Don't ANY of you read?

He was pulled over for not putting on his turn signal soon enough -- something it's clear from the article the cop's dash am confirms.

Ever done that? Put your signal on at the last minute? With a cop right behind you?

Yes I have because in England, like most of the world, we don't have stupid laws about how soon indicator lights have to be put on.

No. My guess is the violation was the excuse for pulling him over. The eye contact was the reason. Had it not been for the eye contact the cop wouldn't have pulled him over.
Your guess is in direct opposition to the known evidence.

He was followed because of the eye contact.
He was pulled over because of the violation.

A cop can just follow someone that catches their intention until they slip up.
Yes, it can work that way. And?

I see no indication that a citation was issued even after the alleged eye contact, which seems to be a part of the incident that occurred via rear view mirror while the cop was checking the license. So the cop allegedly made a smart ass remark to a smart ass. Gimme a break.

To me, there is no issue.

I just find it amazing that now it's ok to follow/pull someone over for simply looking at them. That's crap. I'm surprised that for so many people that are so much into constitutional rights infringement....but find it ok for a cop to follow/pull over an American for simply "looking" at them in a manor that they didn't approve of.

As far as no citation being issued.....they usually don't present a citation when they are being d-bags. If they were a citation issued and the kid contested it....he would tell the judge what was said and I'd venture to guess the cop would have denied saying it. With no citation issued, it's a done deal. I can't tell you how many times I've been pulled over for some BS made up reason. And gues what....no citation ever issued. It's standard procedure. That's what they do.

I find it very sad that there are delusional people here that are OK that cops can pull anyone over at any time for any reason, real or imagined with almost no recourse in most cases. Your word against theirs.
Does the policemobile have a laser tracking system to measure that distance? Or was 'the never wrong' Mark I eyeball used to make a WAG?

I thought it was 'America, land of the free' not 'America, land of the free to do what ever I want because I have a badge'

Thank you smart phones and digital cameras for shining a light in a darkening area of American society. We need to make these cockroaches run and hide.

The article claims he was pulled over for incorrectly signaling a turn.

Apparently the officer started following him because of sustained eye contact. He had admitted as much to the citizen. He then pulled him over for not signaling with enough distance. There are enough laws on the book that pretty much any of us could be pulled over at any time.

The PD is looking into this, regardless it was likely a poor move by the officer. This is a time when there is a lot of friction between the People and the police, it's even starting to turn violent (though statistically I do think that fatal shootings of officers is down). So to start following someone because they looked at you, and then to pull them over for such a minor infraction will only add fuel to the fire.

It was a stupid move by the cop, made dumber by the fact that he even admitted so much. He shouldn't be fired or anything, but he does need to think about his actions first. This sort of trivial act isn't worth inflaming public mistrust over.
